This section is common to all the editions of IT360 - Professional Edition, Enterprise Edition (Probes only) and MSP Edition (Probes only).
IT360 connects with VMware ESX/ESXi servers through standard APIs and determines the health status as well as the performance of the host servers and their corresponding virtual machines.
Follow the steps given below to create a new VMware ESX/ESXi server monitor:
Login to IT360 console with the Username and Password of an Admin user.
Click the Admin tab in the header pane.
Click Discover/Add under Discovery.
Choose the option Add from the Discover/Add type dropdown and select the Application radio button.
In the Add New Monitor wizard displayed, click VMware ESX/ESXi under Virtualization (see this screenshot). In the Add Monitor wizard displayed, do the following:
Specify the Display Name of the VMware ESX server.
Enter the Host Name/IP Address of the host, where the VMware server is running.
Enter the Port, where the server is running. It should be the HTTPS port at which the vSphere web service is running. The default port is 443.
Enter User Name and Password for authentication.
Choose the type of VM Discovery. Under each VMware ESX/ESXi monitor, is listed a set of VMs. Depending on the option, you choose, the VM discovery will happen. If you choose the option;
‘Do not discover’- No VMs, under the selected VMware ESX/ESXi monitor, will be discovered.
‘Discover VM but do not monitor metrics (Will not count for licensing)’- Only the VMs, under the selected VMware ESX/ESXi monitor, will be discovered, but the metrics will not be monitored.
‘Discover and monitor VM metrics’- All the VMs, under the selected VMware ESX/ESXi monitor, will be discovered, and also the metrics will be monitored.
Now, Associate the above Monitor Instances to a Business Service. i.e. choose the Business Service, to which you want to associate the VMware ESX/ESXi server, from the combo box. If no Business Service is found, Create one by clicking the Create New Business Service link.
In the case of Professional Edition, it is Business Service [optional]
In the case of Enterprise Edition - Probe, it is Business Service [optional]
Once you add the ESX/ESXi server, IT360 will auto-discover all the virtual machines in the inventory of the server.
