Associating Thresholds and Actions with Attributes for Servers and Applications

Introduction:

This section is common to all the editions of IT360 - Professional Edition, Enterprise Edition [Both Central and Probes] and MSP Edition [Both Central and Probes].

The next step, after creating the thresholds, is to associate them with the appropriate attributes of Monitor, for generation of alarms.

You can associate the thresholds and actions in the following ways:

  1. From the Monitor Details Page (the steps are explained below)

  2. From the Configure Alarms Page

Steps to Associate Thresholds and Actions with Attributes from Monitor Details Page

  1. Login to IT360 console with the Username and Password of an Admin user.

  2. Choose the Customer and Site from the available dropdowns. [This step is applicable only for MSP edition]

  3. Do either of the following to access the List View of the monitor.

    1. Click the Dashboard tab. Click the required Monitor Type link under Infrastructure Snapshot-Servers or Infrastructure Snapshot-Applications (shown in the below screenshot), whose attributes, threshold, and actions must be associated.

    2. Click the Servers or Applications tab.

  1. In the List View of the Monitor Type displayed, click the required Monitor Name link. Now, the Overview page of the selected monitor is shown.

  2. Click the Configure Alarms link under any one of the required attribute, e.g., Response Time, for which you want to associate threshold.

  1. The Associate Threshold Profiles, Actions window pops up. Now under Threshold Details tab, do the following:

  1. To associate a threshold, do the following:

  2. Now, the threshold is associated with the monitor. You can view this association in the Monitor Details page under the specific attribute section, and it also gets listed in the table available in the Configure Alarms page.

  3. To associate action, do the following:

  4. Now, the action is associated with the monitor. You can view this association in the table available in the Configure Alarms page.

Note: The action configures will be executed when an alarm is generated. Please refer Actions / Alarm Settings for more details.

Exceptions in Associating Thresholds/Actions:

  1. In case of Enterprise and MSP Editions [Central], from the Associate Threshold Profiles, Actions window, it is possible to Associate Actions, but not Thresholds, i.e., the Associate Threshold dropdown shown here will not be available.

  2. In case of MSP Edition [both Central and Probes], from the Associate Threshold Profiles, Actions window, you will also have an option to Apply to similar Monitors across the selected Customer/Site. If you choose this, you need to select a Customer and Site and the threshold for this attribute is applied to the selected monitors. (refer the below image)

  1. Click on Save. The alarm, configured, will be saved.

Note:

  1. The threshold and / or actions are now associated with the attribute. Based on this, alarm will be generated and action will be performed for that attribute.

  2. Thresholds are configured and associated to attributes. You cannot associate threshold with attributes such as Availability and Health. Also in case of health, you must configure dependencies to generate alarms.

Steps to Associate Thresholds and Actions with Attributes from Configure Alarms Page

  1. Login to IT360 console with the Username and Password of an Admin user.

  2. Click the Admin tab in the header pane.

  3. Click Configure Alarms under Alarms.

  4. In the wizard displayed, choose the Customer and Site from the available dropdowns. [This step is applicable only for MSP edition]

  5. The Configure Alarms for Attributes table lists the Attributes associated with the selected monitor. You can create and associate Thresholds and Actions for the attributes from here.

  6. Click the Associate link under the Threshold column.

  1. In the Associate Threshold Profiles, Actions window that opens up, execute the same steps 5-8.

Remove Configuration

You also have an option to delete/ remove the above configurations, by using the Remove Configuration option. This will remove all the configurations and alarms.

Note: The Remove Configuration button will be shown, only after you Save your configuration.
