ManageEngine IT360 - Configure Alarms for Servers and Applications

This section is common to all the editions of IT360 - Professional Edition, Enterprise Edition [Probes only] and MSP Edition [Probes only].

Once you have configured the thresholds, associated them with attributes, created the threshold templates, the final step is to configure Alarms, in monitoring your Applications or Servers.

Once a Monitor is associated with a Business Service, Alarms can be configured through the Configure Alarms page. This provides an overview of all the attributes of the Monitor in a Business Service, and the thresholds and actions associated with the attribute.

You can configure Alarms in the following ways:

  1. Configure Alarms from Monitor details page:

    1. For "Availability" Attribute

    2. For "Health" Attribute

    3. For "Other" Attributes

  2. Configure Alarms from Configure Alarms page

1. Configure Alarms from Monitor details page

  1. Login to IT360 console with the Username and Password of an Admin user.

  2. Choose the Customer and Site from the available dropdowns. [This step is applicable only for MSP edition]

  3. Do either of the following to access the List View of the monitor.

    1. Click the Dashboard tab. Click the required Monitor Type link under Infrastructure Snapshot-Servers or Infrastructure Snapshot-Applications (shown in the below screenshot), whose attributes, threshold, and actions must be associated.

    2. Click the Servers or Applications tab.

  1. In the List View of the Monitor Type displayed, click the required Monitor Name link. Now, the Overview page of the selected monitor is shown. Here, you will be able to see the Configure Alarms link present under different attribute sections, such as Today's Availability, Response Time, etc. Click the required link to perform the relevant operations:

1.1 Configure Alarms for "Availability" Attribute:

  1. Click the Configure Alarms link under Today's Availability.

  2. The Configure Alarms page is displayed. Choose Availability from the Attribute combo box.

  1. Do the following to configure alarms (refer the above screenshot):

    1. Check the option Apply to similar Monitors across the System, if you want to the alarms, configured for this monitor, to be applied to all other similar monitors.

    2. Enable the Configure actions at Attribute level option to Associate Actions. Choose the actions to be associated, when the monitor is both down and up. You can do this by moving the required actions from the Available Actions section to the Associated Actions section.

    3. Check the Show Advanced Options option and Set the consecutive polls count.

  2. Click Save to complete configuring dependencies. Now, the Overview page of the monitor is shown, with a success message is shown as "Successfully configured Alarms".
  1. Click Save and Configure Another to complete configuring dependencies and start a new configuration. Click Remove Configuration to delete the configurations.

1.2 Configure Alarms for "Health" Attribute:

  1. From the Overview page, click the Configure Alarms link under Today's Availability.

  2. The Configure Alarms page is displayed. Choose Health from the Attribute combo box.

  1. Do the following to configure alarms (refer the above screenshot):
    1. Check the option Apply to similar Monitors across the System, if you want to the alarms, configured for this monitor, to be applied to all other similar monitors.

    2. Enable the Configure actions at Attribute level option to Associate Actions. Choose the actions to be associated, when the Health condition is Critical, Warning and Clear. You can do this by moving the required actions from the Available Actions section to the Associated Actions section.

    3. Check the Show Advanced Options option and Configure Dependencies for the Health Attribute.
  1. Click Save to complete configuring dependencies. Now, the Overview page of the monitor is shown, with a success message is shown as "Successfully configured Alarms".
  1. Click Save and Configure Another to complete configuring dependencies and start a new configuration. Click Remove Configuration to delete the configurations.

1.3 Configure Alarms for "Other" Attributes:

  1. From the Overview page, click the Configure Alarms link under any of the attributes, e.g., Response Time, Memory Usage, CPU Usage, etc, except Today's Availability.

  2. The Threshold Details - Configure Alarms window opens up. From here, you can do the following:

    1. Create and associate Thresholds and Actions for the attribute.

    2. Associate Anomaly Profiles for the attribute.

2. Configure Alarms from Configure Alarms page

2.1 Notable Purpose of Configure Alarms Page

Configuring alarms from this page can be called as Global Alert Configuration. This is because of the below useful features:

i) From here, you can associate thresholds and actions easily, without having the need to navigate to the individual Monitor details page.

ii) You can view the list of all attributes, thresholds, actions and anomalies, for both Monitors and Business Service Groups.

iii) You will be able to view the attributes, thresholds, actions and anomalies, for all available monitors and Business Service Groups (by choosing from relavant dropdowns), unlike from that of the Monitor details page, where you can view the attributes, thresholds, etc, pertaining to only that particular monitor or Business Service Group that you have chosen.

2.2 Steps to Configure Alarms

  1. Login to IT360 console with the Username and Password of an Admin user.

  2. Click the Admin tab in the header pane.

  3. Click Configure Alarms under Alarms.

  4. Choose the Customer and Site from the available dropdowns. [This step is applicable only for MSP edition]

  5. In the wizard displayed, you can configure alarms by Monitors or Business Service Groups.

  6. If you choose to configure alarms by Monitor, do the following:

    1. Choose a MonitorType and then the required Monitor from the dropdowns.

    2. The Configure Alarms for Attributes table lists all the Attributes associated with the selected monitor, as shown below:

    1. Do the following:

  1. If you choose to configure alarms by Business Service Group, then do the following:

    1. Choose a Business Service Group from the dropdown.

    1. The Health and Availability details are shown. You can do the following from here:

    2. The Configure Alarms for Monitors within Business Service Group table lists the Monitors associated with the selected Business Service Group, along with details such as Type, Threshold and Anomaly. Click the Associate actions for Health and Availability link to Configure Alarms for Health Attribute and Availability Attribute.
