Discover Individual Devices

Introduction:

This section is common to all the editions of IT360 - Professional Edition, Enterprise Edition (Probes only) and MSP Edition (Probes only).

You might have added more devices to your network and may therefore need to forcefully discover those devices. You can discover such devices, on demand, by following the steps below.

Steps to Discover Individual Devices:

You can add a device, i.e. discover a specific device, using IT360. This option is useful, when you don't want to discover an entire network. You can discover individual devices on demand, by following the below steps:

  1. Navigate to 'Admin --> Networks' and click 'Add Device' under 'Discovery & Configuration'.

  1. Enter either the 'Device Name' or 'IP Address' of the device to be added, e.g. 192.168.4.20.

  2. Specify the correct Netmask, e.g. 255.255.255.0.

  3. Select the 'Customer Name' from the available drop down list. (Applicable only for MSP Edition)

  4. Select the 'Site Name', specific to the selected Customer, from the available drop down list. (Applicable only for MSP Edition)

Note: In order to select the Customer/Site, you need to previously Add the Customer/Site.

  1. Select appropriate 'Credentials' required for the device.

    Note: Credentials are required for collecting data for various parameters through SNMP, WMI/Windows, or Telnet/SSH protocols. When you choose all credentials by checking 'Select All', the appropriate credentials for the device will be detected automatically and get mapped to the device. You should have previously configured the credentials.

  2. Click 'Add Device' to add the required devices for monitoring. The device is discovered and classified properly.

Note:

  1. The proper categorisation of the devices, depends on the Device Template, to which the devices are associated, during initial discovery. [IT360 provides for several Device Templates, by default]. In case, if you add a new device, or a device is newly introduced in the market, but IT360 does not support a Device Template for the same, you may create a New Device Template. The steps to create a New Device Template is described in the following link:

  1. If you are unable to add the device, or if the device does not show up in the map, in which you are looking for, try pinging the device from the IT360 machine and check for response. Search the device using the Device Search box on the top right corner of the WebClient.

Steps to Discover Individual devices Using Map View:

Alternatively, you can also add devices to a specific category directly;

  1. Go to the required map view ['Networks tab --> Click on any Device Group (say Servers or Routers) --> Map subtab'].

  2. Click on the link 'Add Server/Router/...', on top right corner of the map, to discover and classify the device into that particular category.

  1. Follow the above steps 2, 3 & 6.

  2. Click on OK.

Note: If you are unable to add the device, or if does not show up in the map, in which you are looking for, try pinging the device from the IT360 machine, and check for response. Search the device, by using the Device Search box on the top right corner in the WebClient.
