It is a tricky situation to work in NOC with a dead monitoring solution. So what does ManageEngine IT360 has in place, if it goes down due to various reasons like: Server-environment issue, Corruption in Operating systems, Power failure or Unavailability of network?

When business is highly dependent on IT and demands high-availability of all its services, it is imperative for an IT monitoring solution to go down. IT360 avoids such situations with failover configuration in place. This mechanism continuously monitors the health of primary IT360 server and switches automatically to an active standby IT360 server, without any human intervention.

Operational Mechanism of High availability in IT360

IT360 measures a server's availability by the percentage of time it is providing service, in the total time since it is deployed. In general, the servers are expected to be available for 24/7. However, a part or the entire server (the primary) may be down, during a planned or unplanned downtime. This raises the need for High Availability that triggers the standby server to take over the functionalities of the primary server, so that IT360 services are not disrupted.

The High availability Set-up

Below points give you a clear idea on how IT360 ensures High Availability:

  • The High Availability set up requires two separate IT360 installations; one acts as the Primary server and the other as the Standby server, both pointing to the same database.
  • Initially, the Primary will be up to provide the service, while the Standby will be started in hot standby mode, where it keeps on monitoring the Primary, without providing any service. However, it will be in a ready state to start itself as Primary, when the actual Primary server goes down.
  • Both the servers write their heart beat counts in the database. Hence, the Primary monitors the heart beat count written by Standby and vice versa, periodically.
  • When the primary goes down, the standby server will start itself as the Primary and connects to the common database, thereby preventing any data loss.
  • When you start the primary server, which went down, it will automatically get started as the 'standby'.
