AdventNet Offers Comprehensive Support for Management of TL1 Devices

Pleasanton, CA, May 31, 2001 - AdventNet, Inc., the worldwide leader in providing Java-based management solutions to the telecommunications and networking industries, today announced the most comprehensive suite of products that support the TL1 (Transaction Language 1) protocol. This includes full support for TL1 in AdventNet's flagship Web NMS management framework, and support for TL1 in the multi-protocol Agent Toolkit for Java/JMX and embedded agents.

TL1 is a man-machine management protocol deployed in broadband and access networks, including SONET networks. New technologies such as WDM and xDSL often use the TL1 protocol for management of network equipment. The Web NMS is an open, modular framework with massive scalability. It also provides support for development and deployment on standard J2EE Application Servers.

"We are pleased to provide the most comprehensive support for the TL1 protocol. This is another indication of our intense commitment to meet the needs of our customers. TL1 support is a valuable addition to our multi-protocol product suite," said Dr. Sridhar Vembu, CEO of AdventNet.

The AdventNet Web NMS provides open TL1 APIs and Java bean components, a TL1 web-based craft interface on the client side, and a northbound OSS TL1 interface on the server. It provides full support for TL1 devices in the FCAPS and service management applications, including fault management, configuration management, service provisioning, performance management, reporting, and security management.

A distinguishing feature of the Web NMS architecture is its openness. With the open APIs provided for TL1, rapid and easy customization can be achieved. The Web NMS also provides the ability to interoperate with multiple devices, including non-TL1 devices. In addition, it provides native support for various protocols such as SNMP, CLI/Telnet, CORBA and XML. These features offer unparalleled flexibility in development and deployment.

"I am delighted that our developer-friendly, massively-scalable and open Web NMS platform has been further enhanced with this vital ability to manage multi-vendor TL1 equipment," said Vembu.

In addition to fully supporting TL1 in its Web NMS platform, AdventNet also provides TL1 support in a range of products, including AdventNet Agent Toolkit (which facilitates best-in-class agent development) and AdventNet Management Builder, a Rapid Application Development (RAD) tool for building custom extensions. The Agent Toolkit is provided in Java as well as C Editions. A standalone TL1 library is also available.
