MDM Distributing Apps to Devices

 

This document explains you about the following:

Distribute Apps to Devices


Follow the steps mentioned below to distribute the Apps from the App repository to the devices.

  1. Select MDM tab and click Groups and Devices from the left pane

  2. Click on Devices and select the list of Devices based on the platform as iOS /Android/Windows.

  3. Click on Distribute Apps  

  4. Enable the Checkbox to Notify the end user after the App is distributed

  5. Enable the Checkbox to Install Enterprise Apps silently (for iOS supervised devices, Android SAFE and KNOX devices), if required

  6. Select the Apps from the list of Available Apps and move them to the Added Apps

  7. Click on Save changes to distribute the Apps to the devices.


You have successfully distributed Apps to devices. The distributed Apps will be listed in the App Catalog of the user's mobile device. Users can click on it and install the Apps. Google Play Store Apps and Enterprise Apps can be distributed to KNOX devices whereas, only Enterprise Apps can be distributed to KNOX Containers. You can force install Enterprise Apps to iOS supervised devices, SAFE devices, KNOX Containers and Windows devices, without the user's intervention. The App will get installed automatically when the device is reachable by Desktop Central. App distribution for Windows phones will be not done immediately unlike iOS and Android devices. Task will be initiated and the Apps will be distributed to the windows devices, only when the device reaches the Desktop Central server.

 

Note:

1. If a device does not support KNOX feature, then all Apps will be distributed to Device.

2. If a device supports KNOX but no license was associated to it, then the App will be distributed to Device.

3. If a device supports KNOX and the License is also distributed, then

a) Newly distributed apps will be present in Container

b) Previously distributed apps will be present in Device

c) If you want the previously distributed Apps to get installed in Container, then you should completely remove the Apps and redistribute the Apps to the same device.

Upgrade Enterprise App

Enterprise Apps which are distributed using Desktop Central can be upgraded to the latest version, by following the steps mentioned below:

  1. Select MDM tab and click Groups and Devices from the left panel

  2. Click on Groups and select the list of Groups based on the platform as iOS /Android/Windows Groups.

  3. Under Actions click Upgrade icon against the App that needs to be upgraded.

The latest version of the App will be distributed to all the devices on which the App will installed.  This does not require user intervention and will be done automatically when the device is reachable by Desktop Central server. App upgradation for Windows phones will be not done immediately unlike iOS and Android devices. Task will be initiated and the Apps will be distributed to the windows devices, only when the device reaches the Desktop Central server.

Remove Apps from Devices

Apps which are distributed through Desktop Central can be removed. Apps which are not installed through Desktop Central cannot be removed using Desktop Central. To remove an App from the Device by following the steps mentioned below;

  1. Select MDM tab and click Groups and Devices from the left pane

  2. Click on Devices and select the list of Devices based on the platform as iOS /Android/Windows Groups.

  3. Click on Apps  

  4. Select the App that needs to be removed

  5. under Actions, Click remove icon to remove the App.

You can see the status would be changed as marked for delete, and the App will be removed from the Device. Removing Apps from Windows phones will be not done immediately unlike iOS and Android devices. Task will be initiated and the removal process will happen, only when the device reaches the Desktop Central server.
