Error While Downloading Binaries
Problem
Package creation for the specified application has failed.
Cause
You cannot create a package, for an application, using the templates available in the Software Deployment section because you:
- Have not defined proxy settings, or the existing proxy settings are invalid or have been changed
- Do not have access to vendors' Web sites
- Cannot download files from the vendors' Web sites
Resolution
You are required to identify why you cannot create packages using the templates available in the Software Deployment section. Follow one of the solutions given below, depending on what the problem is.
Defining valid proxy credentials
You are required to define the proxy settings.
Note: If you have already added the proxy settings, check them for validity.
To define valid proxy settings, follow the steps given below:
- Click the Software Deployment tab>Proxy Settings
- Enter the following details:
- HTTP proxy host
- HTTP proxy port
- User name
- Password
- Click OK
The Desktop Central server will validate the proxy credentials.
Providing access rights
The administrator must:
- Specify proxy credentials of users who have download rights
- Provide access rights to the systems, to download the required software executable files from the vendors' Web sites
Reducing download errors
When you create a package, you are required to download the package from the vendor's Web site. You can access the executable link for each package through the application details. To access the exectutable links for packages, follow the steps given below:
- Click the Software Development tab>Templates tab
- In the Application column, click the required name
- In the Location section, click the executable link for the package
These links will redirect you to the location from which the package is being downloaded. The possibility of getting a download error reduces if the link is accessible. However, if you get an error while trying to access the link, then you will get an error while trying to download the required binaries, from the Desktop Central server. You should verify the functionality of the executable links for packages only from the system on which the Desktop Central server is installed.
Note: You must ensure that the URL of the executable link is added to the exception list in the proxy server.
You can now re-create the package and deploy it.
