Performance Monitor utility of OpUtils software is used to monitor and collect traffic statistics of any switch or router or any node. This is a real-time network monitoring tool that scans traffic for errors and discards, octet flow, and packet flow.
Click the Tools Home tab
Choose Performance Monitor available under the Network Monitoring category.
Enter the Host Name or the IP Address of the device whose performance requires to be monitored.
Enter the SNMP Community String.
To configure SNMP properties click Settings located at the top right corner or click Admin -> Settings. For details read the Configuring SNMP section.
To configure Graph settings such as the polling interval and number of plots, follow the same steps as given above. For more read the section Configuring Graphs.
Click the Monitor button.
To configure e-mail actions
based on criteria click
icon and specify the e-mail
addresses of the recipients along with the sender's
name and e-mail
id. Select the criteria to send e-mail for the performance parameters.
You can also choose the parameters for which e-mail actions have to be
triggered.
Use the Select the Interface combo box to view the list of active interfaces or to check the performance of any interface. The performance results are categorized as Error and Discards, Octet Flow, Packet Flow, Percent Utilization, and Summary.
Errors and Discards
:
Errors - Refers to the number of inbound packets that could not be transmitted to a higher layer protocol because of their error content.
Discards
- Refers to the number of packets discarded either due to their error
content or free up buffer space.
The In Errors (received)
and the Out Errors count, along
with the In Discards and Out Discards count are plotted in graphs.
Octet Flow : Displays the average received and transmitted
octets in graph. The maximum, minimum and average octets received and
transmitted in the "last N polls" are displayed in a table.
Packet Flow
: Displays the number of
Packets Received and
Packets Transmitted in graph. The maximum, minimum and average
packets received and transmitted in the last 5 seconds are also displayed
in the table.
Percent
Utilization: Displays the received and transmitted bandwidth utilization
of the Interface in graph. The maximum, minimum and the average received
and transmitted bandwidth utilization in the last 10 seconds are also
displayed in a table.
Summary : Displays the In Octets, Out Octets, Packets Received and Packets transmitted in line graph.
To view the performance of a select few interfaces, click the link Show all Interfaces. Choose from the Interfaces listed. Click the OK button. The interfaces selected appear in the combo box Select the Interface.
