Field Purpose

Maximum Value

Packet Count

 

To send the specified number of packets from the host to the target destination for checking the aliveness of a network element.

100

Packet Size

To send the packet with the specified size from the host to the target destination for checking the aliveness of a network element.

200 bytes

Time to Live

For specifying the number of hops a packet can travel before being discarded or returned.

255 seconds/hops.

Timeout

For specifying the maximum amount of time in seconds that the ping should wait for a response from the target network element. If the target NE does not respond within the number of milliseconds set here, PING will assume it is down and a Request timed out response is sent.

5000 seconds.
