How Tos
Discovering
the devices/network
Once WiFi Manager is installed, it automatically discovers the network devices as Access Points, Mobile units, routers, switches, wireless switches and gateways. Discovery of these devices is enabled via inputs from both wired and wireless side. These include techniques like SNMP, HTTP, Telnet, CLI and AP scanning. Initially, the auto discovery is enabled only for devices in the same subnet. To add devices of different subnet, you can use the add network option for adding an entire network, or add device option for adding individual devices or add a range of devices through the web client. The options to add a network, add a device and adding a range of devices are shown in the following steps:
Providing
the credentials:
Using WiFi Manager, you can provide the credentials through the device interface and also check the correctness of these values using the "check credentials option". Once the credentials are filled in correctly, you will find that the devices are discovered and shown under the respective category under the Inventory list of the web client. The following steps show you how to supply the snmp, telnet or HTTP credentials in the device interface.
Configuring Notification
Notifications can be configured in WiFi Manager to alert the administrators in case of any WLAN attacks, vulnerabilities or threats in the network. Different Notification profiles can be created like send mail, play sound or sms. Once the security alarms are configured for notification, they can be associated to the notification profile selected and also to the respective devices in the network. The following steps show you the sequence explaining how to create a notification profile, configure notification of alarms, and associate it to the selected devices:
Configuration of Access Points
You can configure your Access Points for their basic settings, security settings and radio settings. These
configurations can be imported from existing devices or added afresh to
set them in the APs.The APs in your network can be configured individually or even in bulk. This provision in WiFi Manager enables you to configure hundreds of Access Points at a single click from a Single Interface, without having to expend time or enormous efforts. The following steps show you how you can set the various configurations in your device and the simple procedures involved in this process:
Rogue
Detection
WiFi Manager has the capabilities to detect unauthorized APs or mobile users
in the network. To detect these rogue devices, you need to maintain the
authorized MAC list/vendor list/SSID list in the Rogue detection option. Based on these authorized values, WiFi Manager detects the presence of unauthorized devices in the network . This it does with the use of multiple rogue detection techniques like SNMP, AP scan, HTTP and WMI,for Rogue Detection.
How
to use ACL setting?
The purpose of ACL setting is to indicate whether a particular MAC is to be
allowed or blocked from the network. The steps in configuring the ACL setting include:
How to Secure WiFi Manager by enabling HTTPS
WiFi Manager by default has HTTPs and HTTP enabled. While client can be connected
to the port 6080 via HTTP under the normal mode, for the secured mode, you can
type HTTPs in the URL and connect to the port 8443, to open the webclient. The main purpose of using a SSL here is to safeguard the vital corporate information available through the application and prevent potential hackers from misusing the information by their unsolicited entry into the application.
