Configuration of Access Points


 

You can configure your Access Points for their basic settings, security settings and radio settings .These configurations can be imported from existing devices or added afresh to set them in the APs.The APs in your network can be configured individually or even in bulk.This provision in WiFi Manager enables you to configure hundreds of Access Points at a single click from a Single Interface, without having to spend time or enormous efforts.

The following steps show you how you can set the various configurations in your Access Points:

 


 

Configuring Basic/Express Settings

To configure point(s) for some of the basic settings, follow the procedure given below:

Procedure:

  • Select Configuration tab

  • By default the Express Setup page shows up. Fill the configuration values in the template. Refer to the table below for details on the configuration parameters.

  • Select the access point(s) to which you want to apply these configurations. Use the device selector for selecting the access point(s).

  • Click Apply or Apply and Reboot to apply the configuration values.

 

Configuring Security Settings for Access Points

To create a new SSID and configure it to select Access Points, follow the procedure given below:

Procedure:

  • Select Configuration tab

  • Choose "Security Settings" from the left hand side links. Fill the configuration values in the template. Refer to the table below for details on the configuration parameters.

  • Select the Access Point(s) to which you want to apply these configurations. Use the device selector for selecting the Access Point(s).

  • Click "Apply" to apply the configuration values.

 

 

Configuring Radio Settings

To configure the 802.11b/g radio of select Access Point(s), follow the procedure given below:

Procedure:

  • Select Configuration tab

  • Choose "Radio Settings - 802.11bg"or 802.11a from the left hand side links. Fill the configuration values in the template. Refer to the table below for details on the configuration parameters.

  • Select the access point(s) to which you want to apply these configurations. Use the device selector for selecting the access point(s).

  • Click "Apply" or "Apply and Reboot" to apply the configuration values.
Parameter Description
Import from device

For ease of use you can download the configuration settings of an existing access point, which you can modify and then apply to other Access Points. Import from device option helps you download the values from existing Access Points

Basic Radio Settings Enable Radio Specify whether you want to enable this radio or not
Allow Auto Channel Select Specify whether the AP should select channel automatically or not
System Contact Name of the contact person
Radio Channel Choose the channel (if auto channel select option is disabled) in which you want the AP to operate.
SSID Specify the SSID for the AP's 802.11b/g radio
Allow Broadcast SSID Specify whether the AP should broadcast this SSID or not.
Radio Preamble Choose the radio preamble Long or Short
Data Rate (Mbps) Specify the data rates at which the AP should transmit signals. Choose from 1Mbps, 2Mbps, 5.5Mbps, 6Mbps, 9Mbps, 11Mbps, 12Mbps, 18Mbps, 24Mbps, 36Mbps, 48Mbps, 54Mbps.
Advanced Radio Settings Fragmentation Threshold Specify whether fragmentation threshold should be enabled or not.
Fragmentation Threshold Value (256bytes to 2346 bytes) Specify the fragmentation threshold value (applicable only if you have selected enable for the above option)
RTS Threshold Specify whether you want to enable RTS threshold
RTS Threshold Value (0 - 2346 bytes) Specify the RTS threshold value (applicable only if you have have selected enable for above option)
Max RTS/ CTR Retries (1 - 128) Specify maximum value for RTS/CTR retries
Max Data Retries (1 - 255) Specify maximum value for data retries
Beacon Period (ms) Specify the interval for beacons
Data Beacon Rate (1 - 255) Specify the beacon data rate
Receive Antenna Specify which antenna should receive signals
Transmit Antenna Specify which antenna should transmit signals
Select the Access Point(s) to be configured Device Selector: Use this tool to select the Access Points you want to configure.

 

 

Configuring Services in Access Points

To configure services it select Access Points, follow the procedure given below:

Procedure:

  • Select Configuration tab

  • Choose "Services Settings" from the left hand side links. Fill the configuration values in the template. Refer to the table below for details on the configuration parameters.

  • Select the Access Point(s) to which you want to apply these configurations. Use the device selector for selecting the Access Point(s).

  • Click "Apply" to apply the configuration values.
Parameter Description
Import from device

SNMP Settings SNMP Specify whether you want to enable SNMP for the access point
SNMP Read Community Specify the SNMP read community
SNMP Read/Write Community Specify the SNMP read/write community
SNMP Trap Destination Specify the destination port to which the SNMP traps are to be forwarded
SNMP Trap Community Specify the SNMP trap community
Enable all Trap Notifications Specify whether you want to enable all trap notifications or not
HTTP - Web Server Settings HTTP Specify whether you want to enable HTTP in the access point or not
HTTP Port Specify the port number in which HTTP has to run
Telnet Settings Telnet Specify whether you want Telnet service to be enabled in the access point or not
Telnet Port Specify the port number for Telnet service
NTP Settings NTP Specify whether NTP service should run in the access point or not
NTP Server Address Specify the port number for NTP server
Select the Access Point(s) to be configured Device Selector: Use this tool to select the Access Points you want to configure.
