Configuring Notification


Notifications can be configured in WiFi Manager to alert the administrators in case of any WLAN attacks, vulnerabilities or threats in the network. Different Notification profiles can be created like send mail, play sound or sms. Once the security alarms are configured for notification, they can be associated to the notification profile selected and also to the respective devices in the network.The following steps show you the sequence explaining how to create a notification profile,configure notification of alarms, and associate it to the selected devices:


 

Create an notification Profiles

Configuring a notification profile is important as they are the means or methods through which the software will send information to the user. By default, Send mail and Play sound type of notification profiles are available .Based on your preference, the software sends you alerts incase of any WLAN attacks, intrusions or vulnerabilities in your network. New Profiles can be created by following the steps given below:

  • Select Fault tab
  • Choose “Notification Profiles"option
  • Click on “Create new profile” option

1.Notification Profile Details:

On clicking the Create new Profile link from the Notification Profile option, it takes you to the next screen where you need to fill in the name and description of the newly created profile.

 

2.Configure the Notification Profile:The next step is to select the type of notification that you wish to create. You can enable the option which suits your requirement from the list displayed in the UI :

      • Send email : If you choose this type of notification, you need to configure the mail server settings so that you receive the notification by mail. The option to configure mail server settings are available in the UI under "Notification Profile" screen.
      • Play sound : In this case, you need to select the ".wave " file containing the notification sound so that the notification is made by "Play Sound"
      • Run command : Usually Run command form of Notification are preferred by Linux users, where it recalls a command stored in the system.
      • Send Traps : The system can be configured to receive and send traps during a failure.WiFi Manager receives such traps and presents them as meaningful alarms.

3.Fill in the details: Once the profile is selected, you can fill in the details of To and From Email address, subject and the message you want it to display for notification.This complete creation of a Notification profile.

Now,you need to associate the profile to the respective alarms and the device.The next step shows you How to configure Alarms and how these alarms can be associated with the above notification profiles.

 

 

Configuring Alarms for Notification

Once your Notification Profile is created, the next step is to configure notification to the alarms listed in WiFi Manager. You will find the following options under Fault settings options which helps you choose the required Alarms for configuring Notification :

 

  • All Alarms:

Enabling this option implies that you want to receive notification alerts for all types of Alarms.

  • Specific Alarms:

Enabling this option will display the list of alarms which are listed below.To select the specific alarms under each category, you can click on each type of alarm to display the list and enable the specific alarms under each category.

 

 

Associating the Devices

Once the alarms are configured for notification, they need to be associated to the devices. You can use the device selector option available in the Notification setting page. Here, you will find options to select devices :

 

  • All devices : Enabling this button selects all APs in the network
  • Select devices manually: This method allows you to select the devices from the list and move it into the selected list. You can associate the alarms notification to these devices by clicking on Save Profile option.
  • Select devices by criteria : This allows you to list the criteria to which the device belongs to, for eg, you can select the devices based on Vendor, Status, Display name etc.
