Providing the credentials:

Using WiFi Manager, you can provide the credentials through the device interface and also check the correctness of these values using the "check credentials option". Once the credentials are filled in correctly, you will find that the devices are discovered and shown under the respective category under the Inventory list of the web client. The following steps show you how to supply the snmp, telnet or http credentials in the device interface.

SNMP Parameters for Discovery

WiFi Manager uses the SNMP protocols for managing the devices in a WLAN. To enable WiFi Manager to discover or monitor these devices, certain amount of basic details about SNMP parameters have to be provided.

  • SNMP port : By default, the SNMP port value is 161.
  • Community string: The community string behaves like a password which can be used by WiFi Manager to gain authenticated access to WLAN devices like Access Points in order to access its information.
    • The Read community is used for monitoring the managed device by examining the variables in it.
    • The Write Community is used for controlling the managed device by changing the device variables.
    • Traps are sent by the managed devices whenever some event occurs.

HTTP Parameters for Discovery
WiFi Manager Manager uses Http Protocol to discover Access Points which are not SNMP enabled. Since most of SOHO grade Access Points in the market do not have their SNMP agent enabled in them, WiFi Manager employs the HTTP protocol to discover these devices.

You can enable the Http Scan by clicking on the Enable Http Scan button. This calls for the following values to be filled in:

  • Http Port : Default port shows 80
  • Username and password: The login details are used here to gain access to the devices and so the username and password may vary from one vendor to another.

CLI Credentials

WiFi Manager uses Telnet credentials incase of certain devices where the snmp technique is not supported. In such cases, the credentials can be provided in the following order:You can click on the Credentials link from the device details page and fill in the credentials as shown below:

Fill in the username and password for the device:
o Username:Cisco
o Password:Cisco

If the user is a read-only user, provide enable mode credentials.(only for Cisco IOS devices).
o Shell Prompt : >
o Enable Prompt: #
o Enable Password : Cisco

If the user is a read-write user, enable mode credentials are not needed.(only for Cisco IOS devices).
o Shell Prompt : #
* Now test the given credentials using the "Test Credential " button .
* Apply the changes by clicking on the "save" button.
