Business challenges

• Unstructured Active Directory (AD) data: With a vast number of employees operating within the organization, Enpro struggled with maintaining consistent naming formats and enforcing data standards across its global team.

The problem

Calling it a "wild, wild west of data," Patrick Rhodes, the identity services engineer at Enpro, recounted how his team struggled with ensuring uniformity of data entry, like naming formats and addresses, for user creation across the global employee base using the native AD users and computers (ADUC) console. To standardize data population within AD, Rhodes and his team had a firm resolve to automate employee onboarding using automation templates. This quest led them to ADManager Plus, ManageEngine's identity governance and administration solution.

The solution

With the implementation of ADManager Plus into Enpro's IT ecosystem, Rhodes and team were able to usher in reliability and consistency in their user onboarding processes. They could configure template-based workflows for various users, ranging from admin accounts to vendor accounts. Rhodes remarked that apart from standardization, these easy-to-use templates achieved the dual benefit of simplifying user creation while also ensuring that the process adhered to organizational policies.

According to Rhodes, the shift from ADUC to ADManager Plus proved to be a learning curve for the IT team. He noted that technicians were pleasantly surprised by the range of capabilities offered by ADManager Plus, which they couldn't imagine would be possible with ADUC. Furthermore, Enpro's IT team plans to extend the role-based access controls configured by ADUC.

He remarked how the onboarding ensured that Enpro's IT department was able to derive value within a shorter timespan and praised how his team received prompt technical support at any juncture while using the product.
