  • While RecoveryManager Plus can back up and restore AD objects in both physical domain controllers (DCs) or virtualized DCs, Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Active Directory can backup and restore objects only in virtualized DCs.
  • RecoveryManager Plus is a complete backup and restoration solution, Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Active Directory is a free tool that can only be used to restore AD objects using the full backups taken by Veeam Availability Suite, Veeam Backup & Replication, and Veeam Backup Essentials. Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Active Directory uses these full backups to perform object-level restorations to your virtualized DCs.
  • RecoveryManager Plus provides the flexibility to backup only specific types of objects (users, groups, computers, etc.) that you need to back up. Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Active Directory does not provide granular backup configurations. However, both products can restore individual AD objects* to their backed up state.
  • Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Active Directory cannot restore AD contacts.
