# Customizing a Chart

Analytics Plus provides a wide range of customization options, allowing you to personalize the chart's appearance, which is visually appealing and informative. You can adjust colors, fonts, and layouts to match your branding or preferences.

Analytics Plus' **Settings** pane comprises the following three tabs:

- **General**: From this tab, you can perform the following customizations:

## General

This tab displays all the general chart settings, along with the settings specific to the selected chart type.

### Basic

This section allows you to customize elementary details about the report, such as the Title, Description, representation of missing values, and other chart-specific options.

- Specify what data should be displayed for null or empty values in the Display Unknown Value.
- Select the checkbox **Show missing values** to plot data points (dates/categories) without corresponding values. Deselecting this will skip these points in the axis.
- Choose the chart effect to be applied.

## Overview

- The **Overview effect** is beneficial for charts with many data points. It helps select a specific section of the chart for detailed analysis.
- The **Brush effect** allows users to select, highlight, and explore specific portions of a chart by brushing over the data.

### Overview Effect

The Overview Effect adds a preview to the bottom of the chart. You can adjust the slider to focus on a particular region.

- Enable the **Overview** toggle button and choose the chart effect.
- Enable **Auto Hide Overview** to display the overview panel only on hover.
- **Show Latest N data points** displays only the specified number of data points when using a date dimension on the x-axis.

### Scroll Bar Effect

The scroll bar provides smooth horizontal navigation through the data.

- Adjust the slider to choose the Category Thickness or specify a value.
- Enable the **Brush Effect** to explore specific data points or ranges.

## Timeframe Filter

The Timeframe Filter lets you choose the time period for data visualization.

- **Auto**: Automatically selects an appropriate timeframe.
- **Custom**: Allows you to define a specific date range.

## Axis settings

Analytics Plus automatically sets axis values such as labels, range, and intervals. You can customize these as needed.

### Accessing the Axis settings

- Open the desired chart and click the **Settings** icon.
- Expand the **Axis** tab.

### Working with Axis settings

> **Note**: Options may differ depending on assigned columns.

- **Name**: Specify a custom axis name. You can also [format the column values](#format).
- **Font**: Customize font style, size, and color.

  - **Font**: Customize tick mark font.
  - **Direction**:
    - **Auto**

## Borders & Colors settings

Customize background and border colors.

### Accessing the Borders & Colors settings

- Open the chart and click the **Settings** icon.
- Expand the **Borders & Colors** tab.

## Format

Using the right format ensures consistent data representation.

To customize:

1. Columns in the X-axis and Y-axis are listed with a **Format** option.
2. Click **Format** (options vary by data type).
3. Specify the preferred format.

Formatting can also be applied from the report editor:

1. Click the **Settings** icon on hover and choose **Format**.
2. Make changes and click **Ok**.

### Report Level Fiscal Year Settings

The Fiscal Year setting allows you to define the starting month for the fiscal year (applies only to the current report and appears when using a date column).

To customize:

- Click **Format**.

## Legend settings

The legend provides a quick overview of data series with color-coded items.

By default, it appears on the right side of the chart.

### Accessing the Legend settings

- Open the chart and click the **Settings** icon.
- Expand the **Legend** tab.

### Working with Legend settings

- **Legend Position**: Hide, Auto, Right, Left, Top Left, Top Center, Top Right, Bottom Left, Bottom Center, Bottom Right.
- **Title**: Customize legend title and font.
- **Font**: Customize legend item font.

## Threshold settings

A threshold highlights specific values or regions in a chart.

### Add a Threshold

1. Open the chart and click the **Settings** icon.
2. Expand the **Threshold** tab.
3. Click **+ Add Threshold**.

4. Select scope:
   - **Entire Table**
   - **Per Cell**

5. Select **Reference Axis** (if multiple y-axes).
6. Choose **Value**:
   - **Constant** (static)
   - Function (dynamic: min, max, average, sum)

7. Enter a **Name**.
8. Select line type and color.
9. Optionally create alerts using [Data Alerts](https://www.manageengine.com/analytics-plus/cloud-help/chart/creating-data-alerts.html).
10. Click **Apply**.

### Remove a Threshold

1. Open the chart → **Settings**.
2. Expand **Threshold**.
3. Click **Edit** for the threshold.

4. Click **Delete**.
5. Click **Apply**.

## Drill Capability

Drill capability allows viewing data at different levels of granularity.

### Drill Down

Drill down enables viewing granular details in a report.

Steps:

1. Click the **Settings** icon.
2. Enable **Drill Down**.

3. Define drill-down paths.
4. Enable **Allow Dynamic Drill Down** to allow users to drill by any column.

Additional options:

- Enable scale type changes (Linear, Log, Square Root).
- Enable window functions (Running Total, % of Total, Difference From, etc.).

### Drill Through

Drill through allows navigation to related reports from a data point.

#### Configuring a Drill Through Action

1. Click **Settings**.
2. Enable **Drill Through**.

3. Select related views (from the same or related tables).
4. Click **Apply**.

### Drill Through Action Permission

Drill-through options depend on user permissions. Administrators have access by default. For other roles, enable Drill Down and Drill Through permissions while sharing views.

Supported for public and embedded views with proper interaction permissions.

#### Working with Drill Through

- Click any data point and choose **Drill Through**.

- Select the desired report.

The selected report opens in a new tab with applied filters.

#### Disable Drill Through

1. Open the chart → **Settings**.
2. Expand **Drill**.
3. Disable **Drill Through** and click **Save**.

### Sharing and collaboration

While sharing views, report owners can enable the **Drill Through** option to allow other users to drill into related views.
