# How to connect to a device using Terminal Tool?

Follow the steps given below to open a Terminal session for any device:

1. Go to **Tools > Terminal**.
2. Select the device type, either **Inventoried** or **Custom**.
3. Click on the SSH icon ![SSH icon](https://www.manageengine.com/network-configuration-manager/images/Snapshot-FAQ-1-SSH.PNG) to open an SSH session or the Telnet icon ![Telnet icon](https://www.manageengine.com/network-configuration-manager/images/Snapshot-FAQ-1-Telnet.PNG) to open a Telnet session for a particular device from the last column of the given list.
4. This will open a new slide with a terminal window, where you can run the desired CLI commands on the device.
5. If the credentials are not provided for the said device, then a slide will open where you can first provide the credentials and then proceed to the terminal session.
