# Audit and Eliminate High Risk Software **Last Updated On**: 23 Jul 2026 6 minutes read Endpoint Central lists all end-of-life, remote desktop sharing, and peer-to-peer software present in your managed computers under **Threats & Patches → Threats → High Risk Software**. You can inspect the necessity of these applications and uninstall them if they are not required for business tasks, or add them to [exceptions](https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/help/vulnerability-management/managing-threat-and-vulnerability-exceptions.html) if they are critical for your business and you do not want them to appear in this view. **Applies to:** - Windows - Linux ## Audit End-of-Life Software (EOL) Patching may eliminate software vulnerabilities in applications and operating systems. However, legacy applications and OSes that are no longer supported by the vendor — known as End-of-Life (EOL) software — do not receive security updates and are left with security gaps. You must inspect the dependency of business-critical resources and applications on EOL software and their importance to decide whether they are required or not. Under **High Risk Software**, click **End of Life** to see all End-of-Life software present across managed computers. The following details are listed for each software: - **Vendor** - **Expiry Date** - **Days to Expiry** - **Affected Systems** — click the system count to view the individual systems where that specific EOL software is installed. ![End-of-Life software view listing EOL applications with vendor, expiry date, days to expiry, and affected systems count](https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/help/images/vm8.png) End-of-Life software view showing all EOL applications and their expiry details across managed computers. ## Audit and Eliminate Remote Desktop Sharing Software Employees might use remote desktop sharing software to connect to a work computer or remote desktop server from their home or a public network. Unsecured connections may expose firewall ports to the public, increasing the risk of malware, ransomware, or data theft. It is therefore advisable to eliminate remote desktop sharing software from your network systems. Under **High Risk Software**, click **Remote Desktop Sharing** to see all remote desktop sharing software installed across managed computers. The following details are listed for each software: - **Vendor** - **Affected Systems** — click the system count to view the individual systems where that specific software is installed. Under the **Action** column, click **Uninstall** to uninstall the software. If you want to remove it from this view without uninstalling, click **Add Exceptions**. ![Remote Desktop Sharing software view listing installed applications with vendor, affected systems count, and Uninstall and Add Exceptions action options](https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/help/images/vm7.png) Remote Desktop Sharing software view with Uninstall and Add Exceptions actions. ## Audit and Eliminate Peer-to-Peer Software Employees might use peer-to-peer software to share and receive files to and from other computers on the internet. These applications pose a threat to network security as they open certain ports to facilitate file sharing, making it difficult to verify whether the source of the file is free from malware and viruses. Additionally, shared directories can be accessed by anyone on the internet, increasing the risk of corporate data and personal information leakage. It is therefore advised to uninstall peer-to-peer software from your network systems if they are not required for any business-critical tasks. Under **High Risk Software**, click **Peer to Peer** to see all peer-to-peer software installed across managed computers. **Note** If software uninstallation has failed on any computer, that computer will be listed under the **Attention Required** view. To retry, navigate to **Threats & Patches → Systems → Attention Required**, click **Software Uninstallation Failed**, select the computers where the uninstallation has failed, and click **Uninstall**. ![Peer-to-Peer software view listing installed applications with vendor, affected systems count, and Uninstall and Add Exceptions action options](https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/help/images/vm21.png) Peer-to-Peer software view with Uninstall and Add Exceptions actions. ## Related - [Vulnerability Management Overview](https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/help/vulnerability-management/vulnerability-management-overview.html) - [Managing Threat and Vulnerability Exceptions](https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/help/vulnerability-management/managing-threat-and-vulnerability-exceptions.html) - [Port Audit](https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/help/vulnerability-management/port-audit.html) - [Vulnerability Assessment and Prioritization](https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/help/vulnerability-management/assess-and-remediate-vulnerabilities.html) - [Vulnerability Remediation](https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/help/vulnerability-management/vulnerability-remediation.html)
