# Creating and Scheduling Tasks | Endpoint Central MSP

Follow the steps below to create and schedule a task to run Windows system tools across multiple computers:

1. Navigate to **System Tools** under the **Tools** tab. This lists all previously created and scheduled tasks.
2. Click **Add Task** to open the task wizard. Follow the steps below to proceed.

## Define Task

1. Provide a name and description for the task.
2. Select the tools you wish to run and click **Next**.
3. Based on the tool selection, specify execution options:
   - [Check Disk](https://www.manageengine.com/desktop-management-msp/help/tools/run_windows_chkdsk_tool_misc.html#Windows-System-Tools-Check-Disk-Tool): Choose the drive and options such as:
     - *Verbose* — Displays file names during check
     - *Quick Check* — Skips deep folder checks (NTFS only)
     - *Fix Errors on Disk* — Automatically fixes errors
   - [Disk Cleanup](https://www.manageengine.com/desktop-management-msp/help/tools/run_windows_disk_cleanup_tool_misc.html#Windows-System-Tools-Disk-Cleanup-Tool): Select which temporary and unused files to clean up:
     - Compress old files
     - Remove setup, log, dump, and cache files
     - Empty Recycle Bin, internet cache, offline files, etc.

     **Note:** From Windows 10 v1703, Disk Cleanup is replaced by **Storage Sense**. It can be scheduled to auto-clean temp files, cache, and Recycle Bin. Requires a user session to run.    - [Disk Defragmenter](https://www.manageengine.com/desktop-management-msp/help/tools/run_windows_disk_defragmenter_misc.html#Windows-System-Tools-Disk-Defragmentation-Tool): Select the drive and options:
     - *Verbose* — Detailed analysis and results
     - *Analyze* — Pre-check the drive before defragmenting
     - *Force Defragmentation* — Run regardless of condition

## Define Target

Use the [Defining Targets](https://www.manageengine.com/desktop-management-msp/help/general/defining_targets.html#Defining-Configuration-Target-Computers) procedure to select the computers where the task will run.

## Define Scheduler

Specify when and how often the task should run:

| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| Run As* | Username to run the task. Use dynamic variables if needed. |
| Password | User password. |
| Confirm Password | Re-enter password for verification. |
| Perform this task* | Choose the trigger:<ul><li>Daily / Weekly / Monthly / Once</li><li>At System Startup / At Logon / When Idle</li></ul> |
| Advanced Settings |  |
| General | <ul><li>Enable task</li><li>Run only when user is logged in</li></ul> |
| Scheduled Task Completed | <ul><li>Delete when done</li><li>Auto-stop after a set time</li></ul> |
| Idle Time | <ul><li>Start when idle for x minutes</li><li>Stop if activity resumes</li></ul> |
| Power Management | <ul><li>Don’t run if on battery</li><li>Stop task if battery mode starts</li><li>Wake the device if asleep</li></ul> |

## Deploy the Task

Click **Deploy** to push the task to your selected devices. You can view execution status and history in the Task Details view.
