Patch Update Delayed Application in Use

Problem

You are trying to deploy updates for an application but the patch update is delayed with the error message "Patch update delayed since application is used by another process".

Cause

This issue can occur when:

  • A user is logged in and the application is open on the computer.
  • A web browser or another process is using the application.

Resolution

The patch can be installed only after the application closes. The agent checks the application again during subsequent refresh cycles; the default refresh interval is 90 minutes. If the application remains open throughout the deployment window, the deployment records the Application is Currently in Use failure. After the application closes, installation is retried during a subsequent refresh cycle or system startup.

To force-close applications before patch deployment, deploy Patch ID 100012 from Supported Patches to the required target computers. Deploy Patch ID 100013 from Supported Patches to revert that change.
