Applying Quick Fix

A quick fix is a QPPM (Quick PPM) file designed to patch small but important changes. They are applied faster than service pack releases and provide an effective way to quickly address vulnerabilities when a normal upgrade is not feasible.

How to install the quick fix?

If you do not use Failover Server:

  1. Download the QPM file.
  2. Copy the QPM file to the directory <installed_location>/quickfixer/qppm.
  3. Restart the Central Server service.

If you use Failover Server:

  1. Stop the Central Server service on the secondary server (only stop the service, not the machine).
  2. Download the QPM file.
  3. Copy the QPM file to the directory <installed_location>/quickfixer/qppm located on the primary server.
  4. Restart the primary service after applying the fix.
  5. Once the primary service is running, start your secondary service.

Points to Note:

  • On the secondary server, it is important to stop the Central Server service but keep the machine on before downloading the QPM file.
  • While applying the quick fix on the primary server, ensure the secondary server is on and reachable for the changes to be replicated.
  • The service startup may take longer than usual as the QPM file is deployed.

How to verify if the quick fix is applied?

  1. After the server fully restarts, log into the Central Server console and navigate to the Support tab.
  2. If the fix is successfully applied, it will be displayed under the Upgrade Details tab.
  3. If the fix installation has failed, a failure alert will be displayed.

1. Why should I install QPM instead of PPM?

Answer: QPM patching is quicker and easier compared to a PPM update. QPM is useful when a PPM upgrade is not feasible, and only a small but urgent change is needed. QPM does not require the UpdateManager window and only requires a server restart to apply the fix.

2. Can I use this quick fix even if it is not applicable to my build?

Answer: A quick fix is generated for a specific build. If your server is not on that build, the fix will not work. In such cases, you must upgrade to the latest build using PPM.
