ManageEngine CloudSpend provides IT Automation capabilities designed to help you stay in control of your cloud costs across AWS, Azure, and GCP. With automation powered by integration with Site24x7, you can take immediate action when budgets are exceeded, inefficiencies are detected, or thresholds are breached—across all your cloud accounts.
CloudSpend supports IT Automation across the following cloud environments:
Managing budgets or anomalies across multiple cloud platforms is complex. IT Automation in CloudSpend simplifies this by letting you:
An enterprise using multiple cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, and GCP can face frequent cost spikes during non-business hours due to idle or underutilized resources such as VMs, Kubernetes clusters, and databases. Managing and shutting down these resources manually every day becomes time-consuming and prone to error, leading to unnecessary cloud spending.
CloudSpend’s IT Automation feature, when integrated with Site24x7, offers a seamless solution to this problem. By configuring a budget policy with specific thresholds, organizations can automate cost-saving actions. For instance, when the actual spending for a business unit or a specific tag-based resource group crosses 80% of the allocated budget, an automation profile can be triggered to stop idle EC2 instances, scale down Azure VMs, or shut down GCP compute instances.
This automated approach ensures real-time cost control, eliminates the need for manual intervention, and enforces governance policies efficiently. The key benefits are that it enables proactive cloud cost management, reduces cloud waste, and allows teams to focus on strategic tasks rather than reactive monitoring and manual cleanups.
To leverage the IT Automation feature, integrate your CloudSpend account with Site24x7. This integration allows you to:
To integrate your CloudSpend account with your Site24x7 monitoring account, follow the steps below:
This integration will help you view your budgets and accounts in the Site24x7 web client and receive alerts in case of budget threshold breaches.
CloudSpend leverages Site24x7’s IT Automation engine to trigger predefined actions when thresholds for budget or anomaly checks are exceeded. In most cases, IT Automation tasks, such as stopping cloud instances, managing workloads, or invoking external workflows, are executed directly through cloud provider APIs. This includes most service-level actions in AWS, Azure, and GCP.
Site24x7 performs IT Automation across AWS, Azure, and GCP using authenticated API calls. For AWS, Site24x7 leverages the AWS SDK to execute actions, and the associated IAM role must have write-level permissions. In the case of Azure, API calls are used to run automation tasks, and the application used to create the Azure monitor should be assigned the Contributor role at the subscription level. For GCP, the service account used to create the GCP monitor must be granted the necessary permissions .
If you require server-level IT Automations, ensure that you have server agents installed on your VMs.
An Invoke URL action is a type of automation where CloudSpend (via Site24x7) triggers a webhook (a user-defined HTTP callback URL) when a specific condition, like a budget threshold breach or monitor status change, occurs.
In any cloud environment (AWS, Azure, or GCP), CloudSpend can use the Invoke URL action to call a third-party system or trigger custom workflows. Site24x7 triggers the webhook upon a budget alert or threshold violation. The webhook can perform actions like sending a notification, logging the event, or triggering external automation tools to act.
As a result, organizations can build custom, real-time automation pipelines that respond instantly to cost anomalies or cloud events, enhancing their ability to manage cloud spending proactively. The Invoke URL action is completely agentless and offers a lightweight, flexible solution for integrating CloudSpend with any third-party system that supports webhooks.
When setting up a budget in CloudSpend, you can utilize IT Automation and third-party integrations to simplify and enhance the management of your accounts, business units, and reports. This enables automated responses when thresholds for budget and anomaly checks are breached.
By leveraging the IT Automation feature, organizations can implement a proactive approach to cloud cost governance, ensuring optimal resource utilization and strict adherence to budgetary constraints.
