# Software Details Software Inventory of Endpoint Central MSP's asset management provides exhaustive data on software and its properties. This helps IT admins plan their software management and budget requirements. To view the software inventory details, navigate to **Inventory** and click the **Software** button, where you can find the following details: - Software Name: Name of the software. - Version: The version reported by the operating system. For Windows Desktop Apps, this is the `DisplayVersion` value, shown exactly as it appears in Programs and Features. - License Type: Newly detected software is shown as **Unidentified**. To classify it as **Commercial** or **Non-commercial**, select the software and use **Move Software To > License Type**. - Purchased: Number of copies purchased. This information has to be provided by clicking the Add / Modify License button or from [Manage Software Licenses](https://www.manageengine.com/desktop-management-msp/help/inventory/software-license-management.html). - Installed: Number of detected installations. Click the Installed count to view the computers and user accounts on which the software was detected. - Remaining: Number of licenses remaining. - Compliant Status: The license compliance status of the software. The status is arrived based on the details under Manage Licenses field. - Managed Installation: Refers to the number of installations that are being managed within your scope. - Network Installation: Refers to the number of installations that are being managed by the application. - Access Type: Can be either Allowed or Prohibited. - **Vendor**: The software vendor. - Licensed To: Refers to the person or the company to whom the software is licensed. - Purchased Date: Date of purchase of license. - License Expiry Date: Date of license expiry. - Remarks: Remarks, if any. ## How Software Is Detected On Windows computers, Inventory Scan collects installed Desktop App details, including `DisplayVersion`, from the application information registered with Windows. Microsoft Store apps and other user-based software are detected for each user account. When a **Schedule Scan** is configured, a **User Login Scan** runs each time a user logs in to the computer and refreshes that user's software details. Because detection is per account, the same software can be listed for a computer under each user account in which it is detected. See [Inventory Scan](https://www.manageengine.com/desktop-management-msp/help/inventory/inventory-scan.html). **Note** **Installed User Account** identifies the account context in which the software was detected, rather than the user who initiated an installation or removal. **SYSTEM** indicates a computer-based installation context; a named account indicates user-based software, which the User Login Scan refreshes for that account. ## Choosing a Software Report Use the **Installed** count to view the computers and user accounts associated with one software entry. To consolidate computers across multiple software versions, create a Software custom report with **Computer Name**, **Software Name**, and **Software Version**; see [Create a software inventory table report](https://www.manageengine.com/desktop-management-msp/help/reports/creating_custom_reports.html#software-table-report). ## Adding License Details 1. Navigate to the **Manage License** tab under **Inventory** view. 2. Click the **Add License** button. 3. Fill in the required details. 4. Click Add License. ## Software Type and Access Type 1. **Software Type** identifies the installation source as **Desktop App** or **Store Business**. Inventory Scan collects this value. 2. Access type defines the rights for the usage of software, be it Allowed or Prohibited. **Note** Prohibit Software is available only for Windows Desktop Apps. ## Specifying Software Category 1. To add software to a category, navigate to Inventory > Manage Software Category. 2. You can either create a new category or add software to any of the existing category. **Note** When you assign software that was earlier assigned to a different category to a new category, it gets automatically disassociated from the previous category. This means that you cannot have the same software in two different categories simultaneously. ## Uninstalling the Software Administrators can use [software inventory](https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/software-inventory.html) view to audit the list of software installed in the network. If the administrator wants to uninstall specific software from a computer, uninstallation can be invoked from the inventory view itself. To uninstall software from Inventory View, follow these steps: 1. Click the Inventory tab. 2. Choose Software under Views. 3. Select the software that needs to be uninstalled and click the **"Uninstall"** icon under Actions. 4. For MSI-based software, the silent uninstall command is pre-filled from the uninstall information that Windows registers for the product, and Inventory uses that registered command. For EXE-based software, enter the vendor-supported silent uninstall switch and verify it on one computer before applying it broadly. To find the uninstall command of an application, see [Identify uninstallation switches](https://www.manageengine.com/desktop-management-msp/help/software-deployment/general-uninstallation-switches-how-to.html). **Note** The **Uninstall** action in the Inventory Software view removes computer-based software by using its silent uninstall command. To check the context, select the software and view **Installed User Account**: **SYSTEM** indicates computer-based software; a named account indicates user-based software. To uninstall user-based software, go to **Software Deployment > Install/Uninstall Software Configuration > User configuration**, select the package, and set the operation type to **Uninstall**; see [Uninstall EXE-based applications for users](https://www.manageengine.com/desktop-management-msp/help/software-deployment/uninstalling_exe_software.html#uninstalling-exe-based-applications-for-users). You can also deploy a [Custom Script user configuration](https://www.manageengine.com/desktop-management-msp/help/configuration-management/executing_custom_scripts-user.html) with a script from the Script Repository, which includes predefined script templates; see [Add scripts to the Script Repository](https://www.manageengine.com/desktop-management-msp/help/configuring_desktop_central/managing_custom_scripts.html).
