# Terms of Use

This page explains how to configure Terms of Use policies in ManageEngine MDM. Terms of use protect organizations by setting compliance standards for corporate data access and inform device users about data collection practices. Using the MDM Self Service app, administrators can define policies for corporate and/or personal devices, configure multi-language support with a fallback default language, and upload or link to a policy file. User consent is obtained before MDM begins managing the device.

In any organization using mobile devices as a part of its workforce, terms of use play a vital role both from the perspective of the organization as well as the device user. In case of the organization, it sets the mandate regarding confidential corporate data access/sharing as well as the security compliance standards in the organization. In case of the users, it informs them beforehand the data collected from/about the device user and the reasons for the same. MDM lets you display this terms of use policy to your users through the ManageEngine MDM Self Service app (previously ManageEngine MDM app) app and only on agreeing to the terms of use, does MDM start managing the device, effectively obtaining user consent for device management.

## Policy Description

You can choose to configure the language(s) in which the terms of use will be available and the default language in which it is to be displayed. In addition, you can choose to configure this specifically for corporate devices, for personal devices or for a combination of both similar to Privacy Settings.

### Configuring Terms of Use

- On the MDM server, click on **Admin** tab from the top menu and select **Terms of Use**.
- Configure the policy based on the table given below:

You need to provide the policies in the chosen languages, for it to be shown on the device.

| Policy Name | A name to identify the created policy. It is usually pre-defined. |
| Language(s) | Specify the language(s) in which the policy will be displayed. MDM lets you choose from the following list of languages, **in addition to English**:<br><br>**->** Portugese, Italian, Russian, Polish<br>**->** Swedish, Danish, Turkish, Brazillian Portugese<br>**->** French, Japanese, German, Norwegian<br>**->** Finnish, Chinese, Spanish, Dutch<br><br>The MDM Plus server detects the language settings of the user's device and shows the Terms of Use in the corresponding language. You also have the option to configure a default language. If a Terms of Use file isn't available in the device's language, the default language version will be displayed instead. |
| Apply for | Specify whether the policy is to be applied to corporate and/or personal devices. |
| Terms of use file | Specify whether the policy is to be fetched from a URL or if the file will be uploaded on MDM. |

**Note:** MDM cannot access private information of the users like call, messages, browsing history, pictures etc.

## Frequently Asked Questions

**In which languages can I display the Terms of Use?**

MDM supports English plus a set of additional languages including Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Polish, Swedish, Danish, Turkish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, Japanese, German, Norwegian, Finnish, Chinese, and Dutch.

**What happens if the Terms of Use isn't available in a user's device language?**

The default language version you configure will be displayed instead.

**Can I apply different Terms of Use policies to corporate and personal devices?**

Yes. When configuring the policy, you can specify whether it applies to corporate devices, personal devices, or both.

**Does MDM access private information from managed devices?**

No. MDM cannot access private information such as calls, messages, browsing history, or pictures.
