A brief look at configuring maximum lifetime for user ticket renewal policy

The Maximum lifetime for user ticket renewal policy setting determines the time, expressed in days, during which a ticket-granting ticket can be renewed through a request to the Key Distribution Center (KDC).
This policy setting can take values from 0 through 99,999, and can be defined by the user. You can also leave this setting undefined.
Security concerns
If you set high value for this policy, users will be able to use their ticket-granting-tickets (TGTs) for a longer time. This will create a security loophole because hackers will misuse these TGTs to gain access to network resources bypassing credential authentication. Similarly, if a low value, say 0 is set for this policy, then the TGTs don't expire leading to same vulnerability.
Therefore, Microsoft recommends you to set the value for this policy as 7 days. This is the default configuration. A value less than this will lead to frequent authentication requests to the KDC.
Enabling this policy setting using GPO.
By default, the client devices receive the changed or new setting during the next successful Group Policy refresh. However, to immediately make the changes effective, you can execute gpupdate/force command. Upon execution of this command on the local device, the Security Configuration Engine will synchronize to the new setting within next five minutes.
