What is TraceRoute?

Traceroute shows you the route over the network between two systems and IPAddress. It lists all the intermediate routers and the connection passes through to get to its destination. Tool helps administrator to determine why your website response time is poor from different geographical locations. It helps you to know exact problem in connectivity and number of hops it takes to reach the destination.

Traceroute is often used for network troubleshooting. By showing a list of routers traversed, it allows the user to identify the path taken to reach a particular destination on the network. This can help to identify routing problems.

Trace route identifies following network issues

  • Time out
  • Long trip time
  • High round trip time

Ping utility and Trace route will be a essential tool for trouble shooting the website and servers. For any network diagnosis, this tool comes handy for any network administrator.

TraceRoute :

The traceroute functionality provides the full trace path of the server⁄host internally & externally. The user can get the tracedetails in the following ways :

  • PingData Tab : Click the arrow image available in the ping data screen. The click event will redirect the pingdata page to TraceDetails tab. The traceroute details will be shown along with the graph for the selected host.
  • TraceDetails Tab : The list of server⁄host name will be available in the drop down menu. The user can get the trace details by selecting the server names available in the listbox either through the "Enter" key or by clicking the "Trace" button.
    The user can get the trace details of the host⁄server which is not available in the list box. User has to enter the host⁄server name in the text field available in the "TraceDetails" tab.
