What is TraceRoute?

Traceroute shows you the route over the network between two systems and IPAddress. It lists all the intermediate routers and the connection passes through to get to its destination. Tool helps administrator to determine why your website response time is poor from different geographical locations. It helps you to know exact problem in connectivity and number of hops it takes to reach the destination.

Traceroute is often used for network troubleshooting. By showing a list of routers traversed, it allows the user to identify the path taken to reach a particular destination on the network. This can help to identify routing problems.

Trace route identifies following network issues

  • Time out
  • Long trip time
  • High round trip time

Ping utility and Trace route will be a essential tool for trouble shooting the website and servers. For any network diagnosis, this tool comes handy for any network administrator.
