ManageEngine Survey Revealed Argentinian Organisations Face Insider Threats Amidst Cybersecurity Training Gap

Sixty-One Percent of Respondents in Argentina Noted a Rise in Cybersecurity Breaches Within Their Companies in 2023 Compared to Previous Years

Buenos Aires, Argentina — April 24, 2024 — ManageEngine, a division of Zoho Corp. and a leading provider of enterprise IT management solutions, today announced the results of its recent study, The state of cybersecurity in Latin America 2024, which surveyed cybersecurity professionals and decision-makers from companies in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Colombia. The findings revealed some key security trends and shed light on significant challenges that cybersecurity professionals are facing in Argentina.

According to the survey, 61% of respondents in Argentina acknowledged that their companies encountered an increase in cybersecurity breaches in 2023 compared to previous years. While this increase is notable, attacks with significant financial losses remained low, with only 29% reporting losses in 2023. In addition, 47% noted the prominent role of generative AI in these cyberattacks. These results highlight the urgent need to strengthen cyberdefences and adopt more effective preventative measures to safeguard the financial assets and integrity of organizations.

Insider Threats and the Need for Training

Insider threats represent a significant risk to organizations, with 68% identifying employee accidents to be one of top sources of security attacks. Although most companies offer cybersecurity training (95%), only 70% provide it within the first month of hiring. Argentina had the lowest percentage when compared to the rest of the countries surveyed, indicating the critical importance of effective cybersecurity training and robust policies to mitigate the risk of insider threats.

Importance of AI in Cybersecurity

In 2024, AI-driven cyberattacks will be more effective, creating financial hardship and stress for security teams. Although AI-driven attacks pose a genuine threat, AI also has a significant role to play in strengthening cyberdefences. The survey revealed that 92% of security professionals see AI to be critical in defending against cyberattacks. Eighty-three percent of respondents also anticipate that either half or more than half of the cybersecurity solutions in their companies will utilize AI in 2024.

"Artificial intelligence emerges as a cornerstone in defending against the cyberattacks of the future. With broad consensus on its relevance in 2024, businesses recognize the urgent need to adopt AI-enabled tools and have expert professionals in place to safeguard their data and operations. However, confidence in these solutions is counterbalanced by caution, which advocates external oversight to ensure their effectiveness and security," said Andrés Mendoza, technical director for LATAM and Southern Europe at ManageEngine.

Positive Impact of Cybersecurity Insurance

Sixty-three percent of respondents stated that their companies made successful cybersecurity insurance claims. This reflects a growing awareness of the importance of preparedness and compliance in protecting corporate digital assets. The top requirements for purchasing this insurance were security policies and access control (62%), regular employee training (57%), and adherence to data protection regulations (57%).

Survey Methodology

ManageEngine commissioned independent market research agency Dimensional Research to conduct a study in Latin America. The study surveyed 705 qualified executives and security professionals at small businesses to large enterprises from Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Argentina. These participants held direct responsibilities related to security defence and strategy. Among them, 200 respondents also held compliance as a central aspect of their job roles. Specifically, in Argentina, 151 respondents were surveyed.
