# Managing Computers in Scope of Management (SoM) Last Updated On: 27 Oct 2026 This document explains how to manage computers from the Central Server console using actions. Kindly note that any changes done in agent installed machine will be communicated to server during the refresh policy or when the agent communicates with Server / Distribution Server. Kindly note that only persons with administrator role can perform the following actions. ## Adding Computer(s) This explains the process of adding computers to the Scope of Management. This can be done either manually, automatically, or by importing using the CSV option. Kindly note that to manage those devices, agents must be installed. ### Manually 1. Navigate to **Agent > Computers**. 2. Click **Add Computers**. This will open the list of computers fetched from the recent AD Sync. ![how to add computers from console](https://cdn.manageengine.com/sites/meweb/images/desktop-central/help/device-onboarding/managecomputers-addcomputers.webp) If you cannot find the computers, you can either sync them by clicking **Sync now** option or click the **Add Computer** symbol in the corner. Enter the computer name and click **Next**. To add multiple computers, separate them with a comma (,). ![how to add computers using add button](https://cdn.manageengine.com/sites/meweb/images/desktop-central/help/device-onboarding/managecomputers-addbutton.webp) 3. You can also choose the remote offices responsible for managing the selected devices. ![how to add computers from console](https://cdn.manageengine.com/sites/meweb/images/desktop-central/help/device-onboarding/managecomputers-install.webp) 4. Choose one of the following options: - **Install agents:** Automatically install agents on the added computers. - **Add to SoM:** Add the computers to the Scope of Management without installing agents. ### Via Import Option (CSV Upload) #### Import Computers ![how to import computers from console](https://cdn.manageengine.com/sites/meweb/images/desktop-central/help/device-onboarding/managecomputers-importcomputers.webp) 1. Navigate to **Agent > Computers > Import > Import Computers**. 2. Upload a CSV file containing the computer details. 3. Click **Save**. #### Import Custom Field Values ![how to import custom field values from console](https://cdn.manageengine.com/sites/meweb/images/desktop-central/help/device-onboarding/managecomputers-importcf.webp) 1. Navigate to **Agent > Computers > Import > Import Custom Field Values**. 2. Upload a CSV file containing the computer details. 3. Click **Save**. Create the custom fields before you import their values. For steps to create a custom field, see [Custom Field](https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/help/inventory/custom-field.html). ## Removing Computer(s) This explains the process of removing computers from SoM. Once the computer gets removed, the agent gets uninstalled in the next refresh policy. You can view the removed computers in the Agent > Summary Page under Removed computers section. It can also be viewed in Admin > Action Log Viewer > SoM Filter. ![how to uninstall agent from console](https://cdn.manageengine.com/sites/meweb/images/desktop-central/help/device-onboarding/managecomputers-removecomputers.webp) ### Manually 1. Navigate to **Agent > Computers**. 2. Select the computers to be removed. 3. Click **Remove Computer(s)**. **Note:** If you have removed managed computers from a remote office and if you want to remove all devices from a specific Remote Office, delete the entire Remote Office. You can also use the Filter option to view specific devices before removing them. **Note:** A Remote Office can be deleted only after all its agents are removed. If the Remote Office still has agents, the console displays the error "Remote office can be deleted only after its agents are removed. Please ensure that the selected remote office has zero agents." To check for the remaining agents, navigate to **Agent > Computers** and use the Filter option to filter by Remote Office. If the Managed Computers count of the Remote Office is zero but the error still appears, navigate to **Agent > Computers > SDP Computers** and check for devices that belong to that Remote Office. Select those devices, click **Enable UEMS**, and then remove them from the Managed Computers view using **Remove Computer(s)**. Delete the Remote Office again after removing them. You can use the same steps to remove devices that are permanently offline and cannot be moved to another Remote Office. **Note:** To identify the computers to remove, use the Filter option and select criteria such as Custom Group, Remote Office or Last Contact Time. You can also use the [Inactive Computer Policy](https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/help/device-onboarding/configure-inactive-computer-policy.html) to remove computers that have not contacted the server for a specified number of days. Computers removed using any of these methods cannot be restored from the historical data. To manage them again, add the computers to the Scope of Management and reinstall the agent. ## Managing Domain Credentials ![how to add computers from console](https://cdn.manageengine.com/sites/meweb/images/desktop-central/help/device-onboarding/managecomputers-editcredential.webp) 1. Navigate to **Agent > Computers > Edit Credential**. 2. Select the domain where you need to update your credentials. 3. Click **Modify** from the Actions menu. 4. Enter the updated credentials and click **Update Domain Details**. ## Managing Agents in Scope of Management (SoM) ### Installing Agents ![how to install agent from console](https://cdn.manageengine.com/sites/meweb/images/desktop-central/help/device-onboarding/managecomputers-installagent.webp) 1. Select the desired device(s). 2. Click **Install Agent**. **Note:** For WAN agents, installation will begin when the Distribution Server is active and reachable from the Central Server. The Distribution server is required for bandwidth consumption, to replicate files from the Central server and distribute to the agents. The installation status is available in the Remarks column. ### Uninstalling Agents ![how to uninstall agent from console](https://cdn.manageengine.com/sites/meweb/images/desktop-central/help/device-onboarding/managecomputers-uninstallagent.webp) 1. To generate an OTP for uninstallation, navigate to **Agent > Computers > View OTP**. 2. Use the OTP to manually uninstall the agent or distribution server. **Note:** The **View OTP** option is visible in the console only when the uninstallation restriction described above is enabled under **Agent > Agent Settings > Agent Protection Settings**. If the restriction is disabled, the **View OTP** option does not appear. ## Additional Actions ### Move Computers to Another Remote Office ![how to move computers to another remote office from console](https://cdn.manageengine.com/sites/meweb/images/desktop-central/help/device-onboarding/managecomputers-moveto.webp) Use the Move To option to transfer devices to a different Remote Office. **Note:** The agent must be live during the transfer process. Move To is an on-demand operation, so it fails for offline devices. To troubleshoot offline agents, see [Troubleshoot Agent Offline Issues](https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/help/device-onboarding/troubleshoot-agent-offline-issues.html). ### Filter and Search ![how to add computers from console](https://cdn.manageengine.com/sites/meweb/images/desktop-central/help/device-onboarding/managecomputers-filter.webp) Use Filters to display computer(s) based on: - System details - Domain name, Operating System, IP Subnet, OS Platform, Subnet Mask, OS Type, IP Address, DefaultIPGateway, DHCP Server, Remote Office, Custom Group, Processor Architecture - Agent details - Agent version, Agent Status, Agent Live Status, Last Contact Time - Custom fields - You can filter based on the custom fields you configured. Use the Search feature to locate specific devices based on criteria. To search for a specific computer, use the computer name (hostname) instead of its IP address. A computer with multiple network adapters can be listed against more than one IP address, and the computer name is the unique identifier used for the search. ### Custom Fields ![how to add computers from console](https://cdn.manageengine.com/sites/meweb/images/desktop-central/help/device-onboarding/managecomputers-customvalue.webp) Create a [Custom Field](https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/help/inventory/creating-custom-fields.html) to display customized data. **Note:** These fields are only visible in the Computers View. ### Column Chooser ![column chooser from console](https://cdn.manageengine.com/sites/meweb/images/desktop-central/help/device-onboarding/managecomputers-columnchooser.webp) Select specific columns to display in the console. ### Export Data ![how to export data as pdf from console](https://cdn.manageengine.com/sites/meweb/images/desktop-central/help/device-onboarding/managecomputers-export.webp) Export the Managed Computers View as a PDF. ### SDP Computers View ![how to view SDP computers from console](https://cdn.manageengine.com/sites/meweb/images/desktop-central/help/device-onboarding/managecomputers-sdpcomputers.webp) Displays devices applicable for Asset Data Posting to Service Desk Plus (SDP). Enable or disable UEMS for specific devices from this view. ### Renaming Agent If you rename the agent machine and restart it, it will be automatically updated in the console during refresh policy or when agent communicates with Central Server / Distribution Server.
