FAQ

1. How long will it take for Applications Manager's ML algorithm to learn the profile?

The data will be collected for a few hours to enable Machine Learning algorithm to work. For further information, refer: https://www.manageengine.com/products/applications_manager/help/anomaly-profile.html#ml

2.How is licensing calculated in Applications Manager?

We calculate license based on monitors count and number of users to login. For further information, refer: https://pitstop.manageengine.com/portal/en/kb/articles/licensing-faq?pricing

3.Is application dependency mapping generated automatically in Applications Manager?

Yes, based on the connections available it will be generated. It can also be created on ad-hoc basis as per needs.

4.What version/build of Applications Manager will the machine learning threshold profile be available?

You can find that version of Applications Manager here: https://www.manageengine.com/products/applications_manager/release-notes.html

5.How keep bulk server in maintenance in single shot?

You can group the servers into a group and choose the group and keep it under maintenance.

6. Can we see the application response time for end user machine?

An APM Insight or Http URL monitor will help show the application response time for the end user.

FAQ

1. Is Applications Manager an agentless monitoring solution?

Applications Manager is an agentless monitoring tool that supports over 150+ technologies like servers, database, cloud, containers, VM's,etc. You need to install an agent only to avail the APM Insight feature since it needs an agent to sit on the application server itself to track the requests that come to the server & provide in-depth code level diagnostics.

FAQ

1. Do other agents also have the same options shown in Node.js monitoring agent? Also, which version of Application Manager and agents provide all these options?

Yes, other agents also have the same options shown in Node.js monitoring agent. You can refer to the release notes for more information. https://www.manageengine.com/products/applications_manager/release-notes.html

The agents and other addons can be downloaded from this page https://www.manageengine.com/products/applications_manager/download-addons.html

2. Apart from application performance monitoring, what else does Applications Manager monitor?

Besides monitoring application performance, Applications Manager monitors the performance of servers, databases, cloud apps, services, etc. For more information, refer here. https://www.manageengine.com/products/applications_manager/applications-monitoring-features.html

3. What are the solutions if our Application Manager shows that our application is not functioning as expected according to the capacity of our workstation?

The end user can fine tune the application that is slow by adding more resources and also drill down to the line of code causing an error and solve it at the code-level on that target application.

4. Aside from monitoring, what else can Applications Manager do?

Apart from monitoring, Applications Manager offers extensive reporting capabilities, performs capacity planning and helps you automate IT operations and resources provisioning with inbuilt actions. For more information, refer here: https://www.manageengine.com/products/applications_manager/applications-monitoring-features.html

FAQ

How to associate threshold and action to HTTP monitor?

You can use alarm template option and associate threshold and actions. https://www.manageengine.com/products/applications_manager/help/associating-threshold-and-action-with-attributes.html

FAQ

1.What is the best practice for performance polling settings?

You can tune the performance polling based on the poll interval of the monitors present in APM. If the poll interval is high, keep performance poll value as 1, if the poll interval is reduced to below 5 mins, then increase performance poll to 2 or 3. https://download.manageengine.com/products/applications_manager/AM-BestPractices.pdf?help

2. What is the difference between APM standalone and Plugin version? What are the limitations of the plugin?

The plugin and standalone versions offer the same feature-wise. However there are 3 limitations in the plugin version:

  • User roles- Applications Manager stand-alone version offers user roles like: admin, operator, delegated admin, users, managers, etc. Whereas in the plug-in version offers only two roles: administrator and operator.
  • Add host as a monitor- Syncing alarms requires users to add their host as a monitor in the Applications Manager-plug in version.
  • Shutdown service- The plug-in option does not offer shutdown service.

FAQ

1.Can I monitor multiple in house built Java applications? How can I differentiate between these applications once they are monitored using APM?

Yes, you can monitor multiple applications. You have to use the name of the application to differentiate between them.

2. Do we need any credentials to start monitoring the applications? Will just installing the agents do?

Yes, that is right. The agent will be installed on the application server to monitor it. Communication must be there between the agent and Applications Manger to get the data.

FAQ

1. Does the product provide templates for thresholds and customize them for multiple monitors?

Yes, we do have an option where you can configure alarm templates for bulk attributes.

2. What actions can be performed from an Amazon Web Services monitor?

Standard actions like e-mail, SMS, java thread dump can be performed for an AWS monitor but apart from that "cloud action" can also be performed for an AWS monitor.

3. What are other Microsoft 365 products supported in Applications Manager?

The Microsoft products supported by Applications Manager include: .Net, SQL server, Windows, Hyper-V, Dynamics CRM, Dynamics AX, Exchange, Skype, MSMQ, BizTalk, Service Bus, VM, Azure storage, Microaoft teams, Azure cloud services, Azure SQL database, NPS radius server, IIS, etc.

FAQ

GMT

1. Can I update my Applications Manager directly from the internet when the host server does not have internet and the client machine has one?

We need the Applications Manager server to connect to the Internet to download service pack file and upgrade. Otherwise you will have to do the offline upgrade.

2.How to use APM Insight and what are its parameters?

APM Insight is an agent-based monitoring solution for application performance. To use this feature, you have to have APM Insight add-on enabled in licensing. Once the license is enabled, you can download the agent and set up the monitor. For more information, refer here: https://www.manageengine.com/products/applications_manager/help/apm-insight-java-agent.html

3. Will APM Insight work in OpManager through APM Plugin?

Yes, it will work.

4. Do we add APM insight license only once or per workflow (app-to-db)?

APM Insight is an add-on type. Once enabled, the number of apps are limited to the total monitor count in license.
