# Custom Fields Custom Fields in MDM let you define your own additional attributes on managed devices that are not included by default. These fields can help you capture business-specific information such as Department, Cost Center, Warranty Vendor, Assigned Location Zone etc. Once created, these fields are automatically included in device inventory records and used for reporting, sorting, filtering, and exporting. Custom fields help improve asset tracking and organizational reporting. For example: John, an IT administrator, wants to track company-owned assets by capturing details such as asset ID, purchase date, and warranty status. He can create custom fields to store this information and define rules to organize and manage devices efficiently. ## Pre-requisites To manage custom fields, users must have the appropriate role-based permissions assigned. 1. User with ADMINISTRATOR role: Create, edit, and delete custom field definitions. 2. User with WRITE role for Inventory: Perform bulk uploads for updating custom field values through the inventory module. 3. User with WRITE role for Enrollment: Edit custom field values during device enrollment. ## Where Custom Fields Appear You can view the created custom fields in the following places: 1. Enrollment -> Devices 2. Inventory -> Devices > Select a device. ![Custom Fields 1](https://cdn.manageengine.com/sites/meweb/images/mobile-device-management/images/custom-fields1.png) **Note:** Custom Fields are currently not supported for Laptops. ## How to Create a Custom Field To add a new custom field: 1.
