# Network Performance Tracking Last updated: August 13, 2026 Network Performance Tracking in ManageEngine MDM enables IT administrators to monitor Wi-Fi and cellular signal strength on corporate-owned Android devices, including those deployed in kiosk mode or in the field. This page explains how to configure the network policy — setting data collection intervals from 30 minutes to 4 hours and a retention period of up to 7 days — and how to view per-device network history and generate predefined hardware reports for a complete overview of network health across your managed fleet. This feature is applicable only for **Corporate Owned Android devices** managed by MDM. It allows IT administrators to monitor network performance metrics, such as Wi-Fi, cellular network connectivity, or offline status. It also tracks signal strength on the devices. This capability helps identify and resolve network bottlenecks, optimize network configurations, and enhance the user experience. **Furthermore, it allows organizations to track the network strength of devices deployed in kiosk mode or in the field.** When debugging issues with enterprise apps installed on MDM managed endpoints, organisations can use this feature as a preliminary check for network-related problems. This feature is available in **Professional, Free, and Trial editions** of MDM. ## Prerequisites 1. Android **ME MDM version 2.1 or later** must be installed on the device. ## Network signal strength We have categorised network signal strength as follows: 1. **Excellent:** Strong signal, consistent connectivity, and high speeds. 2. **Good:** Reliable connection, moderate speeds. 3. **Average:** Generally usable connection, occasional slowdowns or drops. 4. **Poor:** Weak signal, intermittent connectivity, and slow speeds. 5. **Very Poor:** Very weak signal, frequent drops, very slow or no connectivity. Network signal strength is measured in dBm (decibel-milliwatts). For more information on how signal strength is calculated, refer to the below table: **For Cellular** | Performance | 2G | 3G | 4G | 5G | |---|---|---|---|---| | Excellent | >-75 dBm | >-70 dBm | >-65 dBm | >-60 dBm | | Good | -75 to -89 dBm | -70 to -89 dBm | -65 to -79 dBm | -60 to -74 dBm | | Average | -90 to -99 dBm | -90 to -99 dBm | -80 to -89 dBm | -75 to -84 dBm | | Poor | -100 to -119 dBm | -100 to -109 dBm | -90 to -99 dBm | -90 to -99 dBm | | Very Poor | <-120 dBm | <-110 dBm | <-100 dBm | <-100 | **For Wi-Fi** | Performance | Wi-Fi | |---|---| | Excellent | >>-49 dBm | | Good | >-50 to -69 dBm | | Average | >-70 to -79 dBm | | Poor | >-80 to -99 dBm | | Very Poor | ><-100 dBm | ## Configuring the Network Policy 1. On the product console, navigate to Inventory > Network Performance Tracking. 2. Define how often network data is collected from the device. Supported intervals range from 30 minutes to 4 hours. 3. Specify the number of days to store collected network data. The maximum retention period is 7 days. 4. Choose which devices the policy applies to: **All Devices:** Apply the policy to all corporate-owned android devices. **Specific Groups:** Apply the policy only to selected device groups. **All Devices Except Few Groups:** Apply the policy to all devices except those in specified groups. After saving the policy, it will be applied to the selected devices, and network data collection will commence. The MDM server collects data from the agent at the intervals defined in the policy (e.g., every 30 minutes for network strength). Aggregated data is subsequently posted to the server every 4 hours. If no changes in signal strength are detected within a 4-hour period, only the initial data will be reported. ## Tracking network connection details in Inventory 1. On the individual device summary page, you can view the latest network information. 2. Clicking the View button provides detailed network information and historical data for that specific device. **Note:** Report at 4-Hour Intervals: If no signal strength change occurs within a 4-hour window, report the current signal strength at the end of the 4-hour period. ## Generating Reports An overall summary of network performance history for all devices can be found under **Reports -> Predefined Reports -> Hardware Reports -> Network Performance Report.** You can easily filter the report to view data for specific signal strengths and time periods. You can also get granular details about the device name, signal strength, connection type, platform, last contacted time, and so on. ## Troubleshooting Tips **1. Wi-Fi SSID is unavailable** - Wi-Fi SSID should be set to "To be collected" under Device Privacy settings. - Location permission should be enabled in the ME MDM app. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### 1. Does Network Performance Tracking work on iOS devices? No, this feature is applicable only to Corporate Owned Android devices managed by MDM. ### 2. What data collection intervals and retention period are supported? You can set the data collection interval anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours, and retain collected network data for up to 7 days. ### 3. Why is the Wi-Fi SSID showing as unavailable for a device? The Wi-Fi SSID setting under Device Privacy settings should be set to "To be collected", and Location permission must be enabled in the ME MDM app for the SSID to be captured. ### 4. Which MDM editions include Network Performance Tracking? This feature is available in the Professional, Free, and Trial editions of MDM.
