Enroll Android devices using QR code

QR code enrollment is the recomended method to enroll devices running Android 6.0 or later versions and provision them as Device Owner. The major benefit with QR code enrollment is that devices not supporting NFC can be provisoned as Device Owner using this method. The other advantages of QR code enrollment are:

There are three major steps in enrolling devices using QR code. They are

  1. Install ME MDM app on the device
  2. If the device is already in use, factory reset the device. Specify the Google account requested during initial setup as afw#memdm. This is the Device Policy Controller(DPC) token which automatically installs ME MDM app on the device. In case of a new device, boot up the device and provide DPC token as the Google account.

  3. Enroll the device by scanning QR code
  4. Once the installation is complete the ME MDM app gets opened automatically. Now, select scan QR option and provide Camera permission for ME MDM app. Scan the QR code given on the server to complete enrollment.



  5. Assign users to the device to complete the process enrollment
  6. On the MDM Server, click on Enrollment tab and select QR Code Enrollment under Android. Here, all the devices enrolled using QR code, are listed. You can assign users and Groups to the enrolled devices, either individually by clicking on the Assign User option present under Action or assign them in bulk by uploading a CSV file with all the user details.

    Note :

    1. The CSV file should contain the following fields: User Name, Domain Name, Email Address, Platform Type, Owned By, Group Name
    2. The fields User Name, Email Address and Platform Type are mandatory. All the other fields are optional. If not provided, default values are taken.
    3. The default values for various non-mandatory fields are:
      Domain Name -- MDM
      Owned By -- Corporate
      Group Name -- Default Group for given Owned By & Platform Type.
    4. The first line of the CSV is the column header and the columns can be in any order.
    5. Blank column values should be comma separated.
    6. If the column value contains comma, it should be specified within quotes.
