# Global HTTP Proxy Last updated: August 14, 2026 This page explains how to configure the Android Global HTTP Proxy in MDM to audit and manage internet usage on mobile devices. By creating and deploying an HTTP proxy profile, all device communications from apps and browsers are routed through a designated proxy server, giving administrators complete control over internet traffic. The page also covers supported proxy settings — including automatic and manual configurations, server details, port, and bypass URLs — along with device compatibility requirements across Knox-enabled Samsung and non-Samsung Android platforms. If you want to audit/manage the usage of internet from the mobile devices, you can use HTTP Global HTTP Proxy. All you need to do is to create a profile and associate it to the required mobile devices. By enabling this, all the communications from the mobile device (from various apps and browsers) to reach the Internet, will be routed only using the HTTP Proxy server. So, internet usage from the mobile devices are completely audited/managed. Ensure that the proxy server is located on the edge/public network. The devices should be able to reach the proxy server, even when they are outside the corporate network. If the proxy server is not reachable, from outside the corporate network, then the mobile devices will not have connections to reach the internet when they are out of office. Users cannot reach the internet even using their mobile data. **Only devices running Android 5.0 or above can be provisioned as** [Personally-Owned Work Profile (BYOD, or previously Profile Owner)](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/android_for_work/mdm_android_for_work_introduction.html#Profile_Owner) **or** [Fully Managed (COSU and COBO, or previously Device Owner)](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/android_for_work/mdm_android_for_work_introduction.html#Device_Owner). ## Profile Description | FEATURE | DESCRIPTION | KNOX-ENABLED SAMSUNG | NON-SAMSUNG: LEGACY | NON-SAMSUNG: Personally-Owned Work Profile (BYOD, or previously Profile Owner) | NON-SAMSUNG: Fully Managed (COSU and COBO, or previously Device Owner) | |---|---|---|---|---|---| | Proxy settings | Specify whether the proxy must be automatic or manual | Partial Support from Android 4.4 - Manual Proxy is supported | ![failured](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/failured.gif) | ![failured](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/failured.gif) | ![success](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/success.png) | | Server URL **(Can be configured only if Proxy settings is 'Automatic')** | Specify the Server URL for the proxy. **Note:** .pac should be added at the end of the Server URL | ![failured](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/failured.gif) | ![failured](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/failured.gif) | ![failured](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/failured.gif) | ![success](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/success.png) | | Server **(Can be configured only if Proxy settings is 'Manual')** (Supported from Android 4.4 in Samsung devices) | Specify the Server details | ![success](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/success.png) | ![failured](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/failured.gif) | ![failured](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/failured.gif) | ![success](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/success.png) | | Port **(Can be configured only if Proxy settings is 'Manual')** (Supported from Android 4.4 in Samsung devices) | Specify the Server details | ![success](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/success.png) | ![failured](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/failured.gif) | ![failured](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/failured.gif) | ![success](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/success.png) | | Bypass URLs **(Can be configured only if Proxy settings is 'Manual')** (Supported from Android 5.0 in Samsung devices) | Specify the list of URLs which needn't be routed through the proxy | ![success](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/success.png) | ![failured](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/failured.gif) | ![failured](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/failured.gif) | ![success](https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/help/images/success.png) | ## Frequently Asked Questions - **What is the Android Global HTTP Proxy profile used for?** The Global HTTP Proxy profile routes all device traffic from apps and browsers through a designated proxy server, enabling administrators to audit and control internet usage on managed Android devices. - **Does the Global HTTP Proxy apply to all apps on the device?** Yes, when configured, all network communications from apps and browsers on the managed Android device are routed through the specified proxy server. - **Which Android enrollment modes support the Global HTTP Proxy profile?** The Global HTTP Proxy profile is supported on Fully Managed (COSU and COBO, or previously Device Owner) and Personally-Owned Work Profile (BYOD, or previously Profile Owner) Android devices enrolled in ManageEngine MDM.
