Issues with iOS device activation

Problem

You're trying to activate an iOS device enrolled either using Apple Configurator or Apple's Device Enrollment Program and encounter the following error messages.

Device Enrollment Program

  1. The configuration can not be downloaded. The configuration is not available
  2. NSURLErrorDomain error -1012
  3. A server with the specified hostname could not be found

Apple Configurator

  1. A cloud configuration is already present on this device.

Resolution

The configuration can not be downloaded. The configuration is not available

A server with the specified hostname could not be found

  • Check your network connectivity.
  • Connect a different device to the same network and try accessing the MDM server from this device's browser.

NSURLErrorDomain error -1012

  • Check your network connection.
  • If you have a secure gateway configured, check if the server certificate was copied correctly to the secure gateway while configuring it.

A cloud configuration is already present on this device.

Connect the device back to Apple Configurator and right-click the device and select Restore.This will re-download iOS into the device and fix the problem.

 

If the issue persists, contact MDM Support with the logs.
