Safari could not install a profile due to an unknown error

Problem

End user is trying to enroll an iOS device via invite and encounters the error message: "Safari could not install a profile due to an unknown error".

Cause

This error typically occurs when Stolen Device Protection is enabled and the device is being enrolled from an unknown location. Apple prevents profile installation in such scenarios as a security measure.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, follow these steps:

  1. During enrollment, a prompt will appear. Tap Start Security Delay and wait for 1 hour.
  2. Once the delay period is over, initiate enrollment using the invite link.
  3. The enrollment should proceed successfully.
