Adding New Windows Service Monitors

In addition to the Windows service monitoring performance monitors supported by OpManager out-of-the-box, you can add WMI monitor and other monitors for other windows services too.

Follow the below steps to associate or dissociate a windows service monitor.

Associating a windows service monitor

Windows service monitors can be associated a device using either of the following two ways.

From device snapshot page

  1. Go to Inventory → Devices and then click on the windows device to open its snapshot page.
  2. Now, click on the "Monitors" tab and then click on the "Windows service monitors" subtab.
  3. Click on the "Add Monitor" option. Now, from the list of the displayed services, select the ones that have to be monitored, and then click on "Save".

The monitor has now been added to the device successfully.

From Windows services monitor settings page

  1. Go to Settings > Monitoring → Windows Services.
  2. Click Add and select the device from the drop-down.
  3. You can choose the associated credential of the device(In case of localhost) or select a credential from the credential library. You can also add a new credential using the "Add credential" option.
  4. Now, configure the consecutive time for alert. So, if a value of 3 is configured, alerts will be raised only after the service has been unavailable for 3 consecutive polls.
  5. Based on whether you want to restart the service (automatically restart a service when the service is down) or restart the server (automatically restart the server when a service is down), select the corresponding option. You can select the "No Action" option, if you don't want any action to be taken.
  6. From the list of the available windows services in the machine, select the ones that have to be monitored.
  7. Click Save & Associate. In the next step you can choose the devices to be associated with this new Windows Service monitor.

  8. Select the devices and click 'Save'. If you just wish to save the monitor and not associate it to any devices for now, you can just leave the devices unselected and click 'Save'.
  9. The configured service monitor will now be displayed under Settings → Windows services. Under the relevant service, click on the "Associate" option, to associate the service monitor with the respective devices. You can even edit them by clicking on the "Edit" icon.

Dissociating a windows service monitor

You can dissociate a windows service monitor using either of the following two ways.

From Windows services monitor settings page

  1. Go to Settings → Monitoring → Windows Services → Associate option.
  2. Select the monitor from the Windows Service Monitors drop-down menu.
  3. Select the devices in which you would not like to monitor the services from the right-pane and click on the left arrow. This will move these devices to the Devices on which the service is not monitored column.
  4. Click Associate.

From Quick configuration wizard

You can also associate/dissociate service monitors to devices from the Quick Configuration Wizard. Go to Settings → Configuration → Quick Configuration Wizard → Service Monitors and associate/dissociate services to devices as mentioned above.
