# VMware Snapshot Monitoring VMware snapshots are an essential feature that capture the state of a virtual machine (VM) at a specific point in time, allowing recovery from failures or configuration errors. OpManager supports monitoring VMware snapshots and also enables administrators to create, manage, and track snapshots, helping prevent storage and performance issues. ## VMware snapshot details OpManager displays detailed snapshot information for each VMware VM. - Go to **Inventory → Devices** and select a VMware VM whose snapshot you want to monitor. - Alternatively, navigate to the **Virtualization** tab and select the required VMware VM. - Click the VM to open its **Device Snapshot** page, then select the **Virtual details** tab to view the following information: - **Snapshot name** – Displays the name assigned to the snapshot at the time of creation. - **Snapshot creation time** – Displays the date and time when the snapshot was created. - **Snapshot size** – Displays the total disk space currently consumed by the snapshot. - **Updated time** – Displays the most recent time at which the snapshot size or state was updated in OpManager. - ![VMware Snapshot Monitoring in ManageEngine OpManager: VMware Snapshot Monitoring](https://manageengine.com/network-monitoring/help/images/vm-snapshot.png) - **Action column** – Allows you to suppress or unsuppress alarms for individual snapshots. - In addition, **VMware snapshot count** is displayed in the **VMware VM info** widget available on the respective virtual device’s snapshot page. ## Configuring thresholds for Alerts: **Threshold configuration** can be applied at - VMware VM level - VMware vCenter level to apply thresholds to all virtual machines under the VMware vCenter **To configure thresholds at VMware VM level:** - Click **Configure threshold for alerts** (near the Actions button) to configure snapshot size and age thresholds. - You can select multiple snapshots and click the **Actions** button to suppress or unsuppress alarms in bulk. - ![VMware Snapshot Monitoring in ManageEngine OpManager: VMware Snapshot Monitoring](https://manageengine.com/network-monitoring/help/images/vm-snapshot-1.png) **To configure thresholds at VMware vCenter level:** - Go to the vCenter snapshot page -> Click on the Menu icon on the top right -> Configure VM Snapshot thresholds - Enable the **Overwrite Existing VM-Level Configurations** checkbox to replace the current threshold settings for individual VMs with the new configuration. ## Configure Notification Profile To trigger notifications for VMware snapshot threshold violations, configure a [Notification Profile](https://www.manageengine.com/network-monitoring/help/configuring-notifications.html) with the following criteria: - Choose **When any selected Virtual Device has problem**, and enable **General Alarms** – VMware Events, VM Snapshot Alerts, Physical NIC, and Storage Adapter Status. This ensures notifications are triggered when snapshot-related alarms are raised. ![VMware Snapshot Monitoring in ManageEngine OpManager: VMware Snapshot Monitoring](https://manageengine.com/network-monitoring/help/images/vm-snapshot-2.png)
