How to track printer usage?

Monitoring printer usage includes tracking the volume of files printed, who did it, and when. To track printer usage, perform the following steps:

  1. Click Start → Administrative Tools → Active Directory Users and Computers.
  2. Click the Active Directory container of the OU or Domain that you want to manage. Right-click that container, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Group Policy tab, and then click New to create a "new" Group Policy setting.
  4. In the Local Group Policy Editor, expand the following folders:
    • Computer Configuration
      • Printers

Computer configuration has various options to monitor printer usage. Configure the settings of your choice and deploy them to the OU that contains your printers by linking the GPO.
