Event ID 4778 – A session was reconnected to a Window Station

Description A session was reconnected to a Windows Station

If a user reconnects to an existing Terminal Services session, or switches to an existing desktop using Fast User Switching, event 4778 is generated. This event is also triggered when a user reconnects to a virtual host.

This log provides the following information:

  • Account Name
  • Account Domain
  • Logon ID
  • Session Name
  • Client Name
  • Client Address

Why does event ID 4778 need to be monitored?

  • To monitor specific sessions when Fast User Switching is disabled
  • To monitor connections when remote desktop connections are not allowed for certain users
