Desktop Central Server - APIPA IP Address Detected!


You get an error message on the Desktop Central web console. stating that "APIPA IP Address Detected"


When Desktop Central server loses connectivity with the DHCP server, a temporary IP address will be assigned by Windows. This temporary IP address is called Automatic Private IP Address (APIPA). APIPA IP address range will be from to Whenever APIPA IP address is detected for the Desktop Central server, Desktop Central agents will find it hard to reach the server.


You will have to perform the following  steps on the computer where the Desktop Central server is installed:

  1. Go to command prompt
  2. Enter the following command  “ipconfig/release”
  3. Enter  “ipconfig/renew”
  4. Restart your computer. You can see that server will retry to connect the DHCP server.

If the problem still persists, then you will have to check the network connectivity.

Note : It is always recommended to assign Static IP Address for Desktop Central server.
