How to install msu packages using Software deployment?


There are few hotfixes/patches which will not be listed in the patch tuesday updates from Microsoft. Customers have to request Microsoft directly for these hotfixes/patches. Since they are not publicly listed, they will not be available in the online patch repository of Desktop Central and hence cannot be installed using the patch management module. These hotfixes/patches can be deployed using software deployment module of Desktop Central.


The following steps will guide you to install the msu through software deployment.

  1. Go to Software Deployment > Add Package
  2. Choose "MSIEXEC/EXE/ISS/Command" option
  3. Specify the Application Name
  4. Select the patch type as "HTTP Path(URL)"
  5. Upload the MSU package
  6. Specify Installation Command with Switches/Arguments as: wusa.exe <msu file name> /quiet /norestart
  7. Click Add Package.

You can select the package and click Install/Unistall software button and choose the computers/users to deploy the hotfixes/patches using software deployment.
