# How to add a new device in Network Configuration Manager?

**Adding a device in NCM is a two-step process:**

1. Adding a device  
2. Applying the credential

## Steps to add a device

1. Navigate to **Inventory > Device**
2. Select the device and click on the icon

3. Click on "Add to NCM"
4. Select vendor name
5. Select Device Template Name
6. Select the device series and model if required
7. Ping the device and click on "Add"

## Steps to provide credential to a device

1. Choose the protocol
2. Provide device credentials such as login name, password, prompt, enable username, enable password, and enable prompt
3. Click on backup device to take backup of device credentials (not mandatory)
4. Click on Save and test
