# ![network scan tool](https://www.manageengine.com/products/oputils/help/network/images/network_scanner.gif) Network Scan Tool ![network scan tool](https://www.manageengine.com/products/oputils/help/introduction/images/standardedition.jpg) Network Scan utility of OpUtils software is used to sweep a network for retrieving data like machine types for each node in the network, the interface types, the OS present in the machine, the cable types available for the machine and more. ## To scan a network 1. Click the **Tools Home** tab. 2. Choose **Network Scan** available under the **Network Monitoring** category. 3. Enter the **Subnet Address** to be scanned. 4. Choose the Subnet Mask from the combo box. Click the **Add** button. The subnet is added to the list and displayed under **List of Subnets**. To add more subnets for scanning follow the same procedure. A maximum of five subnets can be added. 5. To configure ICMP and SNMP properties click **Settings** located at the top right corner or click **Admin -> Settings**. For details read the [Configuring ICMP](https://www.manageengine.com/products/oputils/help/setting_up_environment/configuring_icmp.html) and [Configuring SNMP](https://www.manageengine.com/products/oputils/help/setting_up_environment/configuring_snmp.html) section. 6. From the list of subnets displayed choose the subnets to be scanned and click the **Start Discovery** button. 7. To check details, press the tabs **Nodes by Network**, **Machine Types** and **Interface Types**. 8. **Nodes by Network** consists of the list of networks, and the number of systems that are **Up**, **Down** or **Not in Use** in the network. To view the details of the network click on the network link. The details of **IPs, DNS Names, System Types,** and **Status** are listed in a table. 9. **Machine Types** details consist of the different types of machines existing in the network along with the number of nodes for each machine type. Click on the Machine Type listed to view the details. The details of **IP's, DNS Names, System Types,** and **Status** are listed in a table. 10. **Interfaces Type** details consist of the interface types and the number of interfaces present in the network. Click on the Interfaces type link to view its details. The details of **IP's, DNS Names, System Types, Interfaces** and **Status** are listed in a table. 11. To view the details of the above category in a pie chart, click the link **View Graph** located in the right end of the table. 12.
