Manually Enable Recovery Environment Post OS Deployment

Problem

In some instances during OS deployment, the recovery image of your machine may not be properly mapped. This misconfiguration can impact the functionality of your system's recovery options.

Cause

This typically occurs if the deployed image does not correctly enable the recovery partition.

Resolution

To enable the recovery environment on your machine, follow the steps below:

  1. Download the Script
    • Download the recovery enablement script on the affected machine.
    • Run the script as an administrator.
  2. Choose the Recovery Partition Type

Upon running the script, you will be prompted to choose between two options:

    • OS Drive: Type 1, if your recovery boot.wim is located in the OS Partition.
    • Different Partition: Type 2, if your recovery boot.wim is located in a separate partition.
  3. Configuring the Recovery Partition
    • Option 1: OS Partition
    • If you choose the OS Partition option, the recovery environment will be automatically configured. No further action is required.

    • Option 2: Different Partition
    • If you select the Different Partition option, follow these steps:

      • A list of available partitions will be displayed.
      • Identify the partition where the recovery files (boot.wim) are located.
      • Type in the Volume number corresponding to the partition with the recovery files.
      • Once the correct volume number is provided, the recovery environment will be set. Ensure the final result displays an "Enabled" state.
      Note
If the recovery environment is not enabled, please contact OSD Technical Support for further assistance.
  • 4. Verify Recovery Enablement

After configuring the recovery environment, verify that it is enabled. This step ensures that you can restore your system to a known good state in case of issues during operation.

  • Conclusion

Enabling the recovery environment is crucial for maintaining the integrity and functionality of your system. If you encounter any difficulties or errors during this process, please contact support.
