User Profile Backup failed - Unsupported Platform
Reason
User profile backup can fail due to two main reasons.
- The presence of a temporary profile can lead to setup and initialization issues.
- If the Operating System is not supported by the User State Migration Tool.
How do I resolve this issue?
Follow the suggestions below to resolve the issue.
If the user profile backup fails due to a temporary profile, follow the steps below:
- Click the Start button.
- Launch the registry editor by typing "regedit" (no quotes) in the Search box.
- Right-click regedit, then select Run as Administrator.
- Navigate to this path: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList.
- Find two profiles with the same name. One of those should end with .bak.
- The key with .bak at the end is your correct, personalized profile. Add "_new" to the temporary profile key name and remove the .bak from the correct profile key.
- Log off from the temporary profile. Restart your computer and log in to your correct profile.
If the required operating system is not supported by the User State Migration Tool, make sure that you perform user profile backup on a machine that is supported by the User State Migration Tool.
