# Getting started with OS Deployer

Welcome to **ManageEngine OS Deployer** - an easy-to-install, ready-to-use product that automates OS imaging and deployment. It helps administrators capture disk images of different OS versions, customize the images according to their needs, and deploy the images across multiple computers in the network from a single point.

## Starting OS Deployer

OS Deployer can be started in any of the following ways:

1. Double-click the ManageEngine OS Deployer icon from the desktop.
2. Select **Start** --> **Programs** --> **ManageEngine OS Deployer** --> **Start OS Deployer**.

Starting the OS Deployer automatically launches the client in the default browser.

**Note**

When OS Deployer is started in Windows XP / Windows 2003 machines with firewall enabled, Windows will pop up security alerts asking whether to block or unblock the following programs:

- Postgres - Database server
- Java(TM) 2 Platform Standard Edition binary - Java

You should unblock these programs to start OS Deployer.

## Starting OS Deployer Client

1. Open a JavaScript-enabled web browser (for example, Internet Explorer).
2. Type **http://localhost:8020** OR **http://Host Name:8020** in the address bar and press **Enter**.  
   Note: By default, OS Deployer runs on port 8020.
3. In the login page, enter a valid user name and password. This provides authenticated access to OS Deployer. By default, the user name and password are **admin** and **admin** respectively.
4. Click **Login**.
5. The OS Deployer Client is launched in the web browser.

## Stopping OS Deployer

To stop OS Deployer, select **Start** --> **Programs** --> **ManageEngine OS Deployer** --> **Stop OS Deployer** OR execute the following command in the `<os_deployer_home>/bin` directory:

DCService.bat -p
```

## Uninstallation
