389 Directory Server

389 Directory Server - Active Directory integration

In work environments, users have to juggle multiple enterprise applications, including 389 Directory Server, Office 365, and Salesforce. When users are required to remember separate credentials for multiple accounts, they’re likely to forget at least some of them or resort to using weak passwords, leading to poor password security. ADSelfService Plus’ Real-time Password Synchronizer improves network security and ensures effective password management. It synchronizes the password changes made in Active Directory (AD) with users’ 389 Directory Server accounts and other connected on-premises and cloud applications.

How to sync 389 Directory Server passwords across multiple platforms

Every time a user performs a self-service password reset on their AD domain account using ADSelfService Plus, the product automatically synchronizes the new password on 389 Directory Server and other connected enterprise applications. For password changes made via the native Windows interface (Ctrl+Alt+Del screen) or the ADUC console, the new password is synchronized across multiple platforms using a password sync agent. Learn more about the password sync agent.

Real-time sync in action

  • A user resets or changes their AD domain password through ADSelfService Plus or any native method.
  • ADSelfService Plus searches for 389 Directory Server user accounts with the same user ID of that user’s domain account or other mapped AD attributes.
  • If the user has connected Office 365G Suite, or any other IT system with their AD domain account, the new password is automatically synchronized with those accounts as well.

One global password policy for hybrid IT environments

All password changes happening through ADSelfService Plus are scrutinized against the default Windows AD password policy settings. Furthermore, admins can choose to create a custom password policy that fits the password complexity requirements of both 389 Directory Server and AD, helping to comply with regulations such as HIPAACJIS, and PCI DSS.

Sync passwords on the move

ADSelfService Plus' native iOS and Android apps help users sync their AD password with their 389 Directory Server account in real time no matter where they are.

Selectively synchronize users' passwords based on OU and group memberships

Not everyone needs to synchronize all their passwords. Create multiple OU and group-based policies to granularly control which users can synchronize their AD password with their 389 Directory Server account.
