# How to create a new Compliance Rule? Like Compliance policies and rule groups there are few default rules available in Network Configuration Manager. You can create new rules by following the steps given below: 1. Go to Compliance tab from the Main Menu. 2. Select the "Rules" Tab. 3. Click on the add icon ![Add icon](https://www.manageengine.com/network-configuration-manager/images/ncm-add-icon-2.png) next to the tab. 4. Select a type of criteria (Click [here](https://www.manageengine.com/network-configuration-manager/kb/how-to/choose-criteria.html) to know more about the criteria types) and create a criteria for this rule. 5. Click on Next. 6. Provide a name for this new rule. 7. Provide a description (Optional). 8. Select the type of violation (Critical, Major or Warning) if this rule is not adhered. 9. Provide a remediation description (Steps that can be taken in case of violation). (Optional) 10. Choose a remediation template/configlet that Network Configuration Manager can automatically run in case of violation.
