# What will happen if i move a device from Router category to a Custom category?

If a device of a router category is moved to a custom category, there are 2 possible cases:

- **The inherited parent category is also a router:** The custom category will inherit the properties of the router category. Only the category name and its monitoring interval will be affected.

- **The inherited parent category is not a router:** In this case, the properties of the parent category will be applied to the device.

**Note:** When a device from router category is moved to a custom category, the existing monitors and the collected data will not be deleted. However, if the inherited parent category is not a router category, there are possibilities for the existing monitors to be deleted and consequently, the device data might be lost.
